The Box ArrivesOpening the Box
One copy out...Our copies of Book Six
Prairie, Arboretum, Seattle, WAMe, Arboretum, Seattle, WA

And with that, it’s done! Our copies arrived about 11am this morning. After opening the box, we packed up picnic supplies and headed down to the Arboretum, spread out a blanket under the shade of a Madrone tree, and got to reading right about noon. Amusingly, Prairie and I read at almost exactly the same speed, so we were within a page or two of each other the entire time — sometimes one of us would be slightly ahead, sometimes the other, occasionally stealing glances at the other’s page numbers to see whether they were giggling or gasping at something we’d just read, or something we were about to read.

Five hours later, we were both within a few chapters of the end, but our bodies had finally started to complain about having been camped out on the ground for the entire day. So, quite reluctantly, we marked our places, came home…and dived right back in.

By 7pm, we were done. Prairie closed her copy just a couple minutes before I closed mine, and waited for me to finish. A few minutes of talk about the final events in the book, and then — after our long, stressful day of lying around in the shade reading — it was time for a nap.

And now, a long, long wait for book seven to arrive…

  1. Jim bought my copy early Saturday am and gave it to me with a dozen roses and some Chinese takeout. happy sigh

It took me more or less 12 hours to finish (not including a couple naps).

OMG, I’ve been crying all afternoon … I feel sort of like I did when watching the last Star Wars movie … depressed. :(

Anyways, I’m not gonna say anything else about it yet, Jim isn’t done reading his copy and I did promise not to talk about it until he was done so we could discuss it.

  2. Bought mine yesterday morning, but my wife gets to read it first. Buying two copies was a good idea guys. I’m going nuts here.

  3. How long till the movie comes out?

Probably a good few years, since the movie for book four comes out this coming November, and this is the sixth book that just got released.

If you’re waiting for the movie…the books really are worth reading. Rick’s got my copies of the first two right now — feel free to borrow them from him if you like (if he’s done, or just not bothering with them yet).

  4. Part of me wishes I hadn’t read it … I’m STILL freakin’ depressed! :(

But on the other hand, the suspense had been killing me … and now I gotta wait two more years before I can get my grubby little paws on the final chapter! :P

  5. the movie is being released in 2007, with most people predicting a more exact release around that summer.

  6. Wow. Never thought I’d LIKE them, so never bought ANY of them. Saw the first 2 movies sort of by the way on cable, but just reading this post… I gotta go buy them all now, and start reading from scratch.

  7. I hope you enjoy them, Fyr. I held out for a while — saw the first movie, thought it was decent, then preview for the second movie caught my eye, and around then Prairie talked me into giving the books a shot. Obviously, I got hooked. :)

  8. Yup – let’s see what happens. Hemmed and hawed over which one to get first. I decided to go the #3 since I have seen the first and second movies ad nauseum and think I’d be bored reading those stories again right away. I think I will eventually get them all and read those too, but I’m gonna start with #3.
