{"id":1074,"date":"2003-04-04T03:20:58","date_gmt":"2003-04-04T19:20:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2003\/04\/04\/regime-change\/"},"modified":"2019-12-06T08:40:00","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T16:40:00","slug":"regime-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2003\/04\/04\/regime-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Regime change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.\u00a0Kerry seems to be paying close attention to Howard Dean&#8217;s speeches, moving away from his previously stated intent of stopping criticism of Bush in order to release <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/dailyglobe2\/093\/nation\/Kerry_says_US_needs_its_own_regime_change_+.shtml\" title=\"Kerry says US needs its own 'regime change'\">this soundbite worthy quote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  &#8221;What we need now is not just a regime change in Saddam Hussein and Iraq, but we need a regime change in the United States,&#8221; Kerry said in a speech at the Peterborough Town Library.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Unfortunately, where Dean says similar things and manages to both sound like he&#8217;s speaking from the heart rather than a script <em>and<\/em> stand by those statments later on, Kerry, when pressed, starts to waffle. From further on in the same article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  When asked to square his criticism with his pledge of restraint two weeks earlier, Kerry first said that he had tempered his criticism of the administration&#8217;s diplomatic efforts. Then he said: &#8221;It is possible that the word &#8216;regime change&#8217; is too harsh. Perhaps it is.&#8221;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Firery rhetoric is all fine and dandy, Sen.\u00a0Kerry, but only if it&#8217;s not <em>just<\/em> rhetoric. If you believe something, say it, then stand up for it. That&#8217;s part of what I like about what I&#8217;m seeing from Dean. Crafting a soundbite for use in a speech that&#8217;s sure to win lots of quotes and headlines isn&#8217;t nearly as impressive when you then temper your statements afterwards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
