{"id":1791,"date":"2003-09-30T19:19:19","date_gmt":"2003-10-01T09:19:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2003\/10\/01\/saving-embedded-quicktime-movies-on-os-x\/"},"modified":"2019-12-06T08:15:13","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T16:15:13","slug":"saving-embedded-quicktime-movies-on-os-x","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2003\/09\/30\/saving-embedded-quicktime-movies-on-os-x\/","title":{"rendered":"Saving embedded Quicktime movies on OS X"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macosxhints.com\/comment.php?mode=display&amp;sid=20020813100503287&amp;title=Good+idea&amp;type=article&amp;order=&amp;pid=10123\" title=\"Good idea\">this comment<\/a> on Mac OS X Hints, I found an incredibly easy way to save Quicktime movies that have been embedded into a page (like, say, the recently released trailer for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/trailers\/newline\/returnoftheking\/\" title=\"The Return of the King\">The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Well, easy if you&#8217;re comfortable with using the Mac OS X terminal, at least.<\/p>\n<p>Simply create a shell script (I named mine <code>getmov<\/code>) with the following commands:<\/p>\n<pre><code>#!\/bin\/sh\nditto -rsrcFork \/tmp\/501\/Temporary Items\/QT* ~\/Movies\/$1.mov&lt;\/code&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>Then drop that shell script into your <code>\/usr\/bin<\/code> directory, <code>rehash<\/code>, and you&#8217;re set. Now anytime you&#8217;re at a page that has an embedded Quicktime movie that you&#8217;d like to save, just leave the window open, and call that shell script, setting the destination filename at the same time.
