But as an uncle to seven niblings, as a husband of a college instructor, and as a friend to many people with children, it doesn\u2019t seem symbolic to me at all. I may be alone, outside of my apartment, but I stand here in unity with all the students and teachers who are participating in today\u2019s walkout, and also because of my belief that all those who are not walking out, whether that\u2019s because they have been threatened with penalties for doing so, or even if they don\u2019t believe this is a useful or necessary protest, should be safe as well.
