One of those pieces of information is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/Protocols\/rfc2616\/rfc2616-sec10.html\" title=\"HTTP\/1.1: Status Code Definitions\">HTTP Status Code<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If everything is working correctly, the status code sent from the server to the browser is &#8216;200 OK&#8217;, after which the requested information begins to be transmitted. If something doesn&#8217;t work for one reason or another, there are various possible responses, the most infamous of which is &#8216;404 Not Found&#8217;, returned when the requested resource doesn&#8217;t exist on the server anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thinkgeek.com\/\" title=\"Stuff for Smart Masses\">ThinkGeek<\/a> started selling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thinkgeek.com\/interests\/valentines\/6796\" title=\"HTTPanties Valentine's Gift Box\">HTTPanties<\/a> &#8212; a set of panties with either &#8216;200 OK&#8217; or &#8216;403 Forbidden&#8217; emblazoned across the front. Cute idea.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.codepoetry.net\/archives\/2004\/01\/31\/417_expectation_failed.php\" title=\"417 Expectation Failed\">CodePoetry decided this wasn&#8217;t enough<\/a>, though&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  Nothing says lovin&#8217; like 200 OK I suppose. Of course, beyond that and 403 Forbidden lie a whole world of wonderful responses that would be useful at times&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>300 Multiple Choices<\/strong> for the creative.<\/li>\n<li><strong>301 Moved Permanently<\/strong> for the formerly-masculine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>305 Use Proxy<\/strong> for the adventurer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>307 Temporary Redirect<\/strong> for various reasons.<\/li>\n<li><strong>401 Unauthorized<\/strong> for the stranger.<\/li>\n<li><strong>402 Payment<\/strong> Required for &#8230; yeah.<\/li>\n<li><strong>404 Not Found<\/strong> for the unfortunate.<\/li>\n<li><strong>405 Method Not Allowed<\/strong> &#8212; I&#8217;m not going there.<\/li>\n<li><strong>406 Not Acceptable<\/strong> explains itself.<\/li>\n<li><strong>407 Proxy Authentication Required<\/strong> for the underage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>408 Request Timeout<\/strong> for the extended foreplay.<\/li>\n<li><strong>409 Conflict<\/strong> for the tired. (&#8220;The request could not be completed due to a conflict with the current state of the resource.&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li><strong>410 Gone<\/strong> &#8212; Not going there.<\/li>\n<li><strong>411 Length Required<\/strong> describes itself nicely.<\/li>\n<li><strong>413 Request Entity Too Large<\/strong> does the same.<\/li>\n<li><strong>415 Unsupported Media Type<\/strong> will not be discussed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>416 Requested Range Not Satisfiable<\/strong> suffers a similar fate.<\/li>\n<li><strong>417 Expectation Failed<\/strong> &#8212; this is getting bad, quick.<\/li>\n<li><strong>502 Service Temporarily Overloaded<\/strong> for those that didn&#8217;t leave 3-way to the phone companies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>503 Service Unavailable<\/strong> for the married and boring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Works for me!<\/p>\n<p><strong>iTunes:<\/strong> &#8220;Snakes&#8221; by Voltaire from the album <em>Devil&#8217;s Bris, The<\/em> (1998, 4:10).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, ThinkGeek started selling HTTPanties &mdash; a set of panties with either &#8216;200 OK&#8217; or &#8216;403 Forbidden&#8217; emblazoned across the front.
