{"id":2483,"date":"2004-05-12T18:12:35","date_gmt":"2004-05-13T08:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2004\/05\/13\/why-bother-buying-ink\/"},"modified":"2019-12-10T09:39:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T17:39:11","slug":"why-bother-buying-ink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2004\/05\/12\/why-bother-buying-ink\/","title":{"rendered":"Why bother buying ink?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I bought ink for my printer today &#8212; an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epson.com\/cgi-bin\/Store\/support\/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&amp;oid=14417&amp;infoType=Overview\" title=\"Epson Stylus C82\">Epson Stylus C82<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ink &#8212; one cartridge each of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black &#8212; cost me \\$70 from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.officedepot.com\/\" title=\"Office Depot\">Office Depot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The printer, which isn&#8217;t even sold by Epson anymore, can be picked up on Amazon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/asin\/B00006F2W4\/djwudicom-20\" title=\"Epson Stylus C82\">starting at \\$39<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The current comparable printer from Epson &#8212; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epson.com\/cgi-bin\/Store\/consumer\/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&amp;oid=36033903\" title=\"Epson Stylus C84\">Stylus C84<\/a> &#8212; can be picked up on Amazon (complete with ink) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/asin\/B0000B3ALY\/djwudicom-20\" title=\"Epson Stylus C84\">for about \\$84<\/a>, only about \\$14 more than what I paid for the ink.<\/p>\n<p>Why even bother buying ink anymore? Seems to me that it&#8217;s practically more cost effective to just buy a printer and use it until the ink runs out, junk it, and buy a new one. Go for a printer that&#8217;s a little bit cheaper than the C84, and I&#8217;d be willing to bet that it <em>is<\/em> cheaper to treat them as a &#8220;disposable&#8221; item.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s just flat-out ridiculous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>iTunes:<\/strong> &#8220;Masters of War&#8221; by Dylan, Bob from the album <em>Freewheelin&#8217; Bob Dylan, The<\/em> (1963, 4:34).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why even bother buying ink anymore?
