title=\"komo news | Fire on the Seattle Monorail\">linked to<\/a> a breaking story about a fire on the Seattle Monorail &#8212; at the time, it was only an hour old &#8212; in my linklog.<\/p>\n<p>Now that I&#8217;m home, I took some time to go through the various stories on the local news sites: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.komotv.com\/stories\/31515.htm\" title=\"Fire on the Seattle Monorail\">KOMO&#8217;s story<\/a> has been updated, plus <a href=\"http:\/\/www.king5.com\/topstories\/stories\/NW_053104WABmonorailfireSW.218be1967.html\" title=\"Riders shaken when fire breaks out on Seattle Monorail\">KING5<\/a>, an AP story printed verbatim in both the <a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/localnews\/2001943722_webmonofire31.html\" title=\"Fire hits monorail at Seattle Center\">Seattle Times<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/seattlepi.nwsource.com\/national\/apus_story.asp?category=6420&amp;slug=WA%20Monorail%20Fire\" title=\"Fire hits monorail at Seattle Center\">Seattle PI<\/a> (I found it quite odd that the two competing local papers, rather than doing their own reporting, ran the identical AP story), plus <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2004\/US\/West\/05\/31\/monorail.fire\/index.html\" title=\"Monorail train catches fire in Seattle\">one from CNN<\/a> that Prairie pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>Sounds like quite the freaky event, there &#8212; and, unfortunately, one certain to be hounded upon by the anti-monorail crowd in town, especially combined with two monorail stalls earlier in the year. (<a href=\"http:\/\/jacquelinepassey.blogs.com\/blog\/2004\/05\/yet_another_rea_1.html\" title=\"it's not safe!!!\">Ahem<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usefulwork.com\/shark\/archives\/002073.html\" title=\"The Monorail goes down in flames\">ahem<\/a>.) Me, I&#8217;m somewhat amazed that there are as few problems as there are, considering how much mileage is put on those trains!<\/p>\n<p>Amusingly enough, while talking with Prairie about the stories, where her reaction was to be a little freaked out and quite glad she wasn&#8217;t around, my first reaction was, &#8220;Well, no-one got hurt.
