Admittedly, they had a couple things going for them to start with &#8212; interesting subject matter and a powerhouse cast (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0001691\/\" title=\"Geoffrey Rush\">Geoffrey Rush<\/a> as the Marquis de Sade, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000701\/\" title=\"Kate Winslet\">Kate Winslet<\/a> as Madeline, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000323\/\" title=\"Michael Caine\">Michael Caine<\/a> as Dr.\u00a0Royer-Collard, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0001618\/\" title=\"Joaquin Phoenix\">Joaquin Phoenix<\/a> as the Abbe du Coulmier) &#8212; but that&#8217;s not always a guaranteed success.<\/p>\n<p>Geoffrey Rush was loads of fun to watch, though, as the Marquis.
