href=\"http:\/\/www.robotjohnny.com\/\" title=\"RobotJohnny.com\">Robot Johnny<\/a>&#8216;s upgrade to Tiger, linked first by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeldman.com\/daily\/0505b.shtml\" title=\"Jeffrey Zeldman Presents: The Daily Report\">Jeffrey Zeldman<\/a>, then by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sixapart.com\/pronet\/weblog\/2005\/05\/tiger_defines_b.html\" title=\"Six Apart: Pronet: Tiger Defines Blogs\">Anil Dash<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  And the built-in dictionary look-up is very, very cool, even if this definition of \u201cblog\u201d does seem like a sort of a challenge:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n    <strong>blog<\/strong> |bl\u00e4g|<br \/>\n    noun<br \/>\n    a weblog : <em>blogs run by twenty-something Americans with at least an unhealthy interest in computers.<\/em>\n  <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  It\u2019s like it\u2019s saying, \u201c<em>Blog, THIS, nerd!<\/em>\u201d\u2026\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, I had to see this for myself, so I checked it out on my own system, using Tiger&#8217;s <em>way<\/em>-cool (yes, that&#8217;s a technical term) contextual menu dictionary lookup:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/graphics\/2005\/05\/graphics\/blog.jpg\" height=\"212\" width=\"424\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" vspace=\"0\" alt=\"Blog definition\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So now I&#8217;m curious. Was Robot Johnny making a funny? Or is the definition of &#8216;blog&#8217; that he saw something snuck into the Candadian localization of Tiger (I&#8217;m assuming Candaian, given that his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robotjohnny.com\/about\/\" title=\"RobotJohnny.com: The Lowdown on the Downloads\">about page<\/a> says that he lives in Toronto)?<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using Tiger and live outside the US, what does <em>your<\/em> system define &#8216;blog&#8217; as? If the definition he quoted is actually in other versions of Tiger, I&#8217;m both greatly amused, and slightly bummed that we Americans didn&#8217;t get that particular snark.
