Since she&#8217;s new to town, I got to show her a bit more of Broadway and introduce her to some of the stores along the strip, though it was late enough in the evening that there wasn&#8217;t really much time for shopping.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/djwudi\/54361667\/\" title=\"Danielle, The Vogue, Seattle, WA\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/25\/54361667_5f6a5abc02_m.jpg\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" alt=\"Danielle, The Vogue, Seattle, WA\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>We headed up towards <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/the_vogue\/\" title=\"[the_vogue]\"><strong>the_vogue<\/strong><\/a> around nine, and the place was already full enough that we weren&#8217;t able to find a table. Oops! Silly me, thinking that the &#8220;doors open at 9pm&#8221; bit on the flyer meant that the doors wouldn&#8217;t open <em>until<\/em> 9pm. ;) Still, no biggie, we just found a spot on the floor to say hi to people (I saw Ellen and&#8230;gak&#8230;her husband, whose name I <em>will<\/em> remember someday, back by the bar; we chatted with Tricia for a while; and I saw <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/anzu\/\" title=\"[anzu]\"><strong>anzu<\/strong><\/a> for a moment before losing her in the crowd), wait and watch people dance.<\/p>\n<p>And wait. And wait.<\/p>\n<p>The one downside to the evening was that while everybody (including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/djwudi\/25364.html?thread=95508#t95508\" title=\"sirriamnis: We had no control over that.\">staff at the Vogue<\/a>, apparently) was expecting the show to start between 10 and 10:30pm, Voltaire got caught up in selling CDs, comics, other sundries, and talking to people, and didn&#8217;t actually take the stage until about 11:15pm.<\/p>\n<p>Still, once he made it onto the stage, the show was well worth the wait.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/djwudi\/54364019\/\" title=\"Voltaire, The Vogue, Seattle, WA\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/33\/54364019_d2d2fc5d43.jpg\" width=\"490\" height=\"368\" alt=\"Voltaire, The Vogue, Seattle, WA\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He used the same low-key setup as he did <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2004\/11\/voltaire_at_the_1.html\" title=\"eclecticism: Voltaire at the Vogue\">last year<\/a>, no backing band, just him and a guitar. As with last year, one of his first songs was a tongue-in-cheek cover of Rammstein&#8217;s &#8220;Du Ha&szlig;t Mich&#8221;, and then on to other songs. Lots of fun between-song banter and storytelling also.<\/p>\n<p>Songs I remember from the playlist: The Vampire Club, Ex-Lover&#8217;s Lover, When You&#8217;re Evil, Goodnight Demonslayer, plus one from a New Wave style band that he&#8217;s getting started with called One Semester Lesbian, Fully Functional from his Star Trek tribute\/parody album, and a <em>hilariously<\/em> raunchy (to the point of being obscene) country-style ballad set in the cantina on Tatooine from Star Wars.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/graphics\/2005\/10\/graphics\/Voltaire-small.mov\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/graphics\/2005\/10\/graphics\/Voltaire-small-tm.jpg\" height=\"106\" width=\"150\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"0\" vspace=\"0\" alt=\"Voltaire at the Vogue\" \/><\/a>In addition to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/djwudi\/archives\/date-posted\/2005\/10\/20\/\" title=\"Flickr: Voltaire at the Vogue\">photos I took<\/a> over the course of the night, I also took a few minutes of video a few times during the night, and have put together a nine-minute sampler of bits and pieces of the show.
