title=\"iTMS: Christina Aguilera: Back to Basics: Candyman\">Candyman<\/a>.&#8221; Heavily inspired (in a good way) by &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/fs-bin\/stat?id=xLsJkztrnNY&amp;offerid=78941&amp;type=3&amp;subid=0&amp;tmpid=1826&amp;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FWebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewAlbum%253Fi%253D513083%2526id%253D513140%2526s%253D143441%2526partnerId%253D30\" title=\"iTMS: The Andrews Sisters: Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy\">Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy<\/a>,&#8221; it&#8217;s an incredibly infectious little 40&#8217;s swing-style pop tune, and it&#8217;s getting a lot of play around the apartment right now.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently <em><a href=\"http:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/fs-bin\/stat?id=xLsJkztrnNY&amp;offerid=78941&amp;type=3&amp;subid=0&amp;tmpid=1826&amp;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FWebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewAlbum%253F%2526id%253D176359265%2526s%253D143441%2526partnerId%253D30\" title=\"iTMS: Christina Aguilera: Back to Basics\">Back to Basics<\/a><\/em>, the album that &#8220;Candyman&#8221; comes off of, has Christina experimenting with a lot of different vocal styles from the past, with Christina <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtv.com\/bands\/m\/most_anticipated_2006_news\/news_feature_010306\/\" title=\"MTV.com: 2006: A Look Ahead\">describing it<\/a> as &#8220;a throwback to the 20s, 30s, and 40s-style jazz, blues, and feel-good soul music, but with a modern twist.&#8221; When I browsed through the album on iTunes, most of the snippets didn&#8217;t really grab me &#8212; they had a bit <em>too<\/em> much of a &#8216;modern&#8217; (hip-hop) twist to them. However, along with &#8220;Candyman,&#8221; two others ended up finding their way into my collection: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/fs-bin\/stat?id=xLsJkztrnNY&amp;offerid=78941&amp;type=3&amp;subid=0&amp;tmpid=1826&amp;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FWebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewAlbum%253Fi%253D176361923%2526id%253D176359265%2526s%253D143441%2526partnerId%253D30\" title=\"iTMS: Christina Aguilera: Back to Basics: Nasty Naughty Boy\">Nasty Naughty Boy<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/fs-bin\/stat?id=xLsJkztrnNY&amp;offerid=78941&amp;type=3&amp;subid=0&amp;tmpid=1826&amp;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FWebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewAlbum%253Fi%253D176362032%2526id%253D176359265%2526s%253D143441%2526partnerId%253D30\" title=\"iTMS: Christina Aguilera: Back to Basics: I Got Trouble\">I Got Trouble<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All three songs are together in the second half of the album, and they all concentrate on a very 40&#8217;s sound &#8212; though each is from a very different musical style. Where &#8220;Candyman&#8221; draws on the big-band sound, &#8220;Nasty Naughty Boy&#8221; uses slow, sultry jazz styles (think Jessica Rabbit&#8217;s &#8220;Why Don&#8217;t You Do Right&#8221; in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html%3FASIN=B00007AJGH%26tag=djwudicom-20%26lcode=xm2%26cID=2025%26ccmID=165953%26location=\/o\/ASIN\/B00007AJGH%253FSubscriptionId=02ZH6J1W0649DTNS6002\" title=\"'Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Vista Series)' (Robert Zemeckis)\">Who Framed Roger Rabbit<\/a> with the vamp amped up &#8212; this one is just <em>begging<\/em> to be used in a burlesque routine), and &#8220;I Got Trouble&#8221; heads down to play with a very southern blues feel.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this being late 2000&#8217;s pop, and Christina being Christina, the lyrics have a tendency to slip over the line from innuendo into straight-out raunch. Not necessarily a <em>bad<\/em> thing, but it does make for a good laugh.<\/p>\n<p>As I said above, the rest of <em>Back to Basics<\/em> didn&#8217;t grab me, but those three? I&#8217;d definitely say it&#8217;s worth spending the three bucks to snag &#8217;em off of iTunes.
