of financial backing prevented further development.&#8221; What&#8217;s interesting about this (at least to Seattleites&#8230;er, well, at least to me&#8230;) is that it&#8217;s talking not about the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seattle_Monorail_Project\" title=\"Wikipedia: Seattle Monorail Project\">recent monorail debacle<\/a>, nor the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattlemonorail.com\/\" title=\"Seattle Monorail\">existing monorail<\/a> built for the 1962 Worlds Fair, but the 1911 William H. Boyes Monorail.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <a class=\"imagelink\" href=\"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/boyesmonorail.jpg\" title=\"Boyes Monorail\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image4172\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/boyesmonorail.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"Boyes Monorail\" width=\"128\" height=\"81\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>This test track was built and demonstrated in 1911 in the tideflats of Seattle, Washington. The rails were made of wood and track cost was estimated to be around $3,000 per mile. A bargain!
