I&#8217;ve mentioned it a time or two in the past, which I spent a few minutes throwing together a silly little video putting the audio from the song against <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-isb.com\/?p=308\" title=\"Chris's Invincible Super-Blog: Archie In...A Different Class!\">this mashup of the song and panels from <em>Archie<\/em> comics<\/a>, which you might be able to view <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2008\/03\/14\/archie-vs-pulp-common-people\/\" title=\"eclecticism: Archie vs. Pulp: Common People\">here<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelhans.com\/eclecticism\/2009\/04\/23\/archie-vs-pulp-common-people-again\/\" title=\"eclecticism: Archie vs. Pulp: Common People (Again)\">here<\/a> on my blog, or maybe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cyPYpiYMwC0\" title=\"YouTube: Archie vs. Pulp: Common People\">here<\/a> on YouTube, depending on what the copyright rules are in your country.<\/p>\n<p>So it was fun to come across this post about the song from <a href=\"http:\/\/33revolutionsperminute.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/11\/the-rage-of-common-people\/\" title=\"The rage of Common People \u00ab 33revolutionsperminute's Blog\">The rage of Common People \u00ab 33revolutionsperminute&#8217;s Blog<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  Insecurity breeds viciousness. The pathos of \u201cwatch[ing] your life slide out of view\u201d and having \u201cnothing else to do\u201d gives way to blistering fury at those who \u201cthink that poor is cool\u201d and that, in turn, to violence. In a verse cut from the single edit, Jarvis compares the \u201ccommon people\u201d to a dog lying in the corner who, without warning, will \u201ctear your insides out\u201d, a line so savage that it seems impossible that just two minutes ago we were still smirking in the supermarket. In the BBC3 documentary, Jarvis calls another section missing from the single edit (\u201cYou will never understand\u2026\u201d) the \u201cpunchline\u201d to the whole song, and winces at the intensity of his own vocal. Did he intend the song to contain so much discomfiting ambiguity, or did it get away from him, as great songs often do?\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(via <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.metafilter.com\/97512\/You-think-its-cuddly-but-it-will-tear-your-insides-out\" title=\"MetaFilter: You think it\u2019s cuddly but it will tear your insides out\">MetaFilter<\/a><\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>I think it&#8217;s the slide from amusement to condescension to all-out-rage as the song goes by that really does it for me.
