MovableType tweaks, continued

This entry was published at least two years ago (originally posted on September 2, 2002). Since that time the information may have become outdated or my beliefs may have changed (in general, assume a more open and liberal current viewpoint). A fuller disclaimer is available.

Yes, ladies and gents, it’s another in my rapidly-growing list of complete geek posts. Enjoy!

Movable Type‘s Trackback feature has been implemented. It’s a little confusing to try to explain, but in essence, it’s a way to track links and comments across multiple blogs. When I link to someone that uses TB, then a link to my post will show up on their site, and when someone links to me using TB, then my post will show a link to their site. More information can be found here.

This is more for my own use, but I’ve implemented PromoGuy’s comment e-mail hack to give me more detailed Subject info in the e-mail I receive when someone posts a comment to my site, and his comment IP hack to tell me a bit more about the comments left on my site. And, lastly, he had a similar hack for Trackback notifications that looked good, so I dropped that in there too. Hmm…wonder what he’ll think of getting three trackback pings from me all at once when this post goes up….

Another that only really affects me, is a quick little hack so that when I post a comment, I don’t get the notification e-mail. That always seemed a little silly anyway.

Lastly, with the change I made in the archiving (adding a directory structure), the “Go »” link on the ‘Recent Comments’ section was broken. I posted a question asking about how to fix it on the MovableType support forums, and was pointed to this thread, which had a hack to do exactly what I needed.

And I think that’s it for this round.
