Lost s02e03: Orientation

This entry was published at least two years ago (originally posted on October 6, 2005). Since that time the information may have become outdated or my beliefs may have changed (in general, assume a more open and liberal current viewpoint). A fuller disclaimer is available.

Scribbled notes while watching last night’s episode of Lost. Spoilers, obviously, so only read further if you want to…

Lost

  • The ‘prison’ ditch is handmade…not part of the bunker complex.
  • Locke’s counsellor — Helen — was that who he was on the phone with before going to Australia back in season one?
  • Quite a nice arsenal down in the bunker.
  • Oops — no more ‘puter!
  • So Desmond was part of a race, then essentially got ‘drafted’ into the bunker job.
    • He’s been ‘saving the world’ for three years, at no more than about 90 minutes rest at a time.
    • So it’s been around three years since Jack saved his wife’s life. Within that three years she recovered (enough to dance at their wedding), they fell in love, got married, and…something.
  • An orientation film? That logo’s on the film canister.
  • New character — Anna Lucia — the same girl Jack met in the airport bar.
  • The orientation film:
    • The Dharma Initiative
    • The bunker is Station Three “The Swan” — that’s a swan in the middle of the octagonal logo.
    • DI created 1970 by Gerald and Karen Degroot.
    • Research compound: psychology, biology (polar bears…and sharks?), parapsychology, more.
    • Station 3 had a 540 day rotation (about 1.5 years).
    • Set up to study “unique electromagnetic emanations” in that quadrant of the island.
    • 2-man team to work in rotation resetting the countdown timer every 108 minutes.
    • Doesn’t say what will happen if the timer runs out.
  • No tail section after all? Anna Lucia says she woke up on her own in the ocean.
  • Locke’s breaking down.
  • Hehe — Hurley found the pantry.
  • Oooh — that’s not the others…it’s the people from the tail section!
    • Is that big black guy (“Shaft”) the black woman’s husband?
  • Jack’s wife: divorced or dead?
  • So now we have Rousseau and Desmond running around the island on their own.
  • Hurley almost let Locke key in the wrong code…I kind of wish Jack hadn’t come back.
  • Dammit Jack! I want to know what happens (or doesn’t happen) when the countdown runs out!
  • Are Jack and Locke going to be stuck in the bunker now?
  • From the preview for next week:
    • Apparently more people are coming to the bunker too.
    • WTF: Jin speaks English?!?!
