It seems that Star Wars turns 30 today. Does that mean that we can’t trust it anymore?
This means that it’s been at least 30 years since Dad took me to see “A New Hope” at the Fireweed Cinemas in Anchorage, wow…apropos of ’70s sci-fi and turning 30, I finally saw “Logan’s Run” this past autumn. It was interesting to note that “Logan’s Run” was released right before SW. I think I recall a movie historian holding up “Logan’s Run” as being the last of the hugely popular sc-fi dystopias of the ’70s US film scene…SW rushed in with, what…optimism? The good guys whoopin’ the bad guys at the end? Something like that, perhaps…
I still need to see “Hidden Fortress”, from which Lucas supposedly appropriated much of the characterization and plot for “A New Hope”. As for trusting SW…I am still willing to believe that a wookie might pull my arms out of my sockets if he/she lost a 3D chess match with me. I also continue to believe that Han shot first, Lucas’ remakes and all.
I can’t imagine what would happen if Yoda rewrote the Who lyrics. The result could only be sung by Bjork (yes, I was looking at your del.icio.us tags)…
