Since I’ll hit 20 years of blogging this November, this year I’m posting a daily list of anything I published on this day in the past.

    • Links for August 11th through August 12th Sometime between August 11th and August 12th, I thought this stuff was interesting. You might think so too! • Olympic opening uses girl's voice, not face • Deconstructing Dr. Horrible • Part of Olympic display altered in broadcast • Olympic Fail: Blue Screen of Death Strikes Bird's Nest During Opening Ceremonies Torch Lighting • Turn your change into apps (or music)

    • Crackrats! Prairie: (okay, I shouldn't think this is funny, but it's cracking me up): Studies find rats can get hooked on drugs…they fed crack to rats
    • California nullified 4,000 marriages Sad news today from California — their state Supreme Court has decided that San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom overstepped his authority, and declared nearly 4,000 same-sex marriages null and void.
    • Whoops – not that way! Today became a bit more adventuresome than I expected it to be, thanks to a slight change of schedule, and a few transportation-related goofs on my part.
    • DVD driver acquitted This originally just went into my linklog, but considering my previous rant, I wanted to follow up on this one. The Alaskan driver accused of killing two people due to watching a DVD while driving has been acquitted.
    • Truth in advertising I don't know for sure if this is a real ad or not, but if it is, whoever came up with it really needs a raise…
    • New CDC anti-condom guidelines Somehow I'd missed hearing about this until just now (the article is a few weeks old), but new regulations from the CDC threaten to yank federal funding from any HIV-prevention organization that fail to limit their efforts to promoting abstinence and refraining from promoting the use of condoms.
    • The mysterious H. John Heinz IV Of the various children and stepchildren of John Kerry and Teresa Heinz-Kerry, one has been conspicuously absent from all of the various political appearances and shenanigans: H. John Heinz IV, Teresa's oldest child. A few details do surface from time to time, and I've got to say that not only does John sounds like an incredibly accomplished and very interesting individual, he apparently also has impeccable fashion sense.

    • Oh, this'll be fun I need to print, read, internalize, and (possibly hardest of all) understand the Apache mod_rewrite documentation.
    • diveintocrappyteenagepoetry.org This drivel was written sometime in high school, while I was bored in my typing class, and it was (obviously) heavily inspired by Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'.
    • Blaster When that little 'Windows Update' icon blinks at me on my PC, I pay attention to it, download, and install the updates. It's a pain in the butt, especially since there seems to be a new 'cricital update' every week, but sometimes those critical updates really are critical.
    • Three hours later… Now, three hours later I can finally get to work doing what they pay me for — but that's only because I got sick of watching a stalled progress bar, force-quit the Windows Update program, and told it to sod off. My security updates were done anyway, it was just chewing on some less critical patches, so I'm not too worried.
    • Texas ANG Bush Action Figure This figure probably stands 14 inches in height, and is exactly as the future Leader of the Western World(tm) appeared during his service defending our Nation's borders from Mexicans and Bahamians.
    • Fair and balanced So, in order to honor this fine legal milestone, and in the company of many other weblogs, this weblog's tagline has now been changed to "Fair and Balanced".
    • Brass knuckles in nursing homes? An aide in an Arkansas nursing home allegedly beat an 81-year-old woman with brass knuckles because she had been 'disrespectful,' police said Friday.
    • Mouseketeers One of the A-Listers says he was a VeeJay on MTV. But this is pretty much the 21st Century equivalent of some one saying he or she was an original Mousekateer. It's been so long since any living soul has seen either one that, well.. who are we to say?
    • Perception Management Propaganda is all-encompassing when it comes to war, of course. The trick is to try to recognize when you're being fed facts, and when you're being fed propaganda. The above article is excerpted and adapted from Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq, which looks to be very interesting, and worth picking up.
    • To Mr. Brendan Steinhauser I don't care how you justify or rationalize your racism, it's still racism. It's still ugly, small-minded, and disgusting, and it has no place in a country filled with people who would like to be able to say the words 'land of the free, home of the brave' without bitter irony.
    • Bush in Seattle The day before Dean's appearance here, our esteemed leader (*cough*) will be here. Information on planned protest rallys can be found at Action Alert and Stop Bush Seattle, but here's the pertinent information…
    • Dean in Seattle Join thousands of Washingtonians in welcoming Howard Dean and his 'People-Powered Howard Sleepless Summer Tour' to Seattle for a PUBLIC RALLY on Sunday, August 24th, at 6:30 PM at Westlake Center, 4th and Pine, in Seattle. Doors open at 5:30 PM.
