Unamerican

blasphemy means ignoring your dreamsI found this at Unamerican. Very cool site.

Okay, I’ve spent some more time bouncing around the site, and I really don’t want to say nothing except ‘very cool site’ — that’d be doing it such a disservice. I haven’t even done much more than skim over most of the site — there’s a ton of stuff to read — but I’ve gone over the catalog of shirts and stickers, and I want to order one of each of the shirts, and about five of each of the stickers. Seriously. I could think of so many places to put so many of these stickers. They’re great.

So head over there, check it out. Buy me stuff. :D Buy yourself stuff. Or just look and get a giggle at some of the stuff there. It’s cool.

There’s also some very interesting — and very frightening — stuff to be found in the links from the site. Such as this column on ‘Homeland Security’ checkpoints being set up. I haven’t been as paranoid as some people I’ve met…but stuff like this really makes me wonder.

Who wrote the bible?

Here’s some fascinating stuff courtesy of The Straight Dope — a five-part series covering the primary theories on who wrote and edited the Bible. I’ve only read the first part, but plan on going through the rest fairly soon, and may want to pick up a book they recommend in the article, Who Wrote the Bible? by Richard E. Friedman. This stuff fascinates me…here’s the links:

  • Part 1: Who wrote/compiled/edited (and when) the first five books of the Bible, called the Torah or Pentateuch or Five Books of Moses?
  • Part 2: Who wrote/compiled/edited (and when) the various histories in the Old Testament (such as Judges, Kings, etc)?
  • Part 3: Who wrote/compiled/edited (and when) the various prophetic books (Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc.) and the wisdom literature (Psalms, Proverbs, etc.) in the Old Testament?
  • Part 4: Who wrote/compiled/edited (and when) the various New Testament books?
  • Part 5: Who decided which books should be included and which excluded from the Bible(s)? Why are there differences in the Bibles for Catholics, Protestants, and Jews?

Looks to be some really neat reading.

On a lighter note, they’ve also got articles on jokes in the Bible and the Church of the Subgenius. Maybe not as serious, but could be equally interesting.

More tidbits

Another collection of links that I stumble across during the day. This is an easy way for me to temporarily ‘bookmark’ places I can’t dive into while at work, but don’t want to completely forget about by the time I get home. As before, feel free to peruse.

Interesting tidbits

Just some interesting stuff I’ve stumbled across in the last few days. I might start doing this occasionally — the things I grab may or may not be of interest to anyone else, but they catch my eye for one reason or another. Make of that what you will.

Fire your friends

More stupid people: Burned at party. Okay, so your friend’s passed out from all the booze he drank at your New Years party. Okay, so the old ‘hand-in-a-bowl-of-warm-water’ or ‘shaving-cream-on-the-face’ tricks are pretty old. But is dousing his leg in lighter fluid and setting him on fire really the best and brightest idea for a prank?
