Another weekend survived

Not that it’s usually that difficult to survive my weekends, actually….

Well, let’s see. Any major events of note recently? As of when I’m writing this (12:47pm Seattle time), the west coast still has all its bridges intact. If we make it through all of this without anything happening, I’d be really interested in finding out just how reliable that information was. At the time the release came out, it was described as being second-hand information from a police organization other than the FBI…and so far, all it’s done is scare a lot of people and lead to increased security on every major bridge on the west coast. Was it even a real plan, or did a rumor get enough out of control to panic the entire western seaboard? Sure, it’s entirely possible that the combination of increased security and lack of surprise may have deterred any attack, but how long before we get into a situation where it seems like every time we turn around someone else is crying wolf? You can only do that so many times before the shepherds stop listening — and not long after that, you’ve got a fat wolf.

Aside from that, things progress more or less normally. Friday evening after work, Heather and I went up to see Monsters, Inc.. We were supposed to end up meeting Rick and Tim there too, but they got busy with getting into an apartment and weren’t able to make it. The movie was a lot of fun — plotwise, not quite as strong as either Toy Story or Toy Story 2 (although certainly not bad by a long shot), but the animation was absolutely incredible. The leaps and bounds in technology as each new film comes out are astounding to watch, and this was certainly no exception. After the movie, we headed up to the Six Arms to get dinner.

Saturday was spent mostly at home with movies until the evening, when Chad and Don were having a housewarming party — Don’s lived in the house for a while now, but Chad just moved in there from Casey’s place. I walked up the hill to their place, and spent a great evening there. I knew a few of the people I saw there (Tim, Rick, Chad, Casey, and Dez I knew from Alaska; Don, Jenny, Brent, Spud, Peter, Kim, Kayo, and Wendy I’ve met since I moved down here), but there were a ton of others that I met over the course of the night. Dez and some of the other guests had cooked up a fabulous turkey dinner large enough to feed all of the 40-some people that were invited, and things were still going when I decided it was time for me to wander home at about 1:30am or so. Rick came along to crash at my place, as Tim had headed out much earlier. We got to the shoebox, watched Shrek, and crashed out.

Sunday Rick and I slept in quite late, then wandered up Broadway to Charlie’s for breakfast. Rick took off after that, and I headed back home. I did a little cleaning up while listening to the directors commentary track on Shrek, and Heather came by about halfway through. We finished watching that, then watched one of the commentaries on Dogma. Due to the late night I’d just had, I was struggling to stay a wake through Dogma, so after that was over Heather headed back to her place, and I got to bed early, for once.

I may have found some more opportunities for DJing around town, if I don’t end up getting the cruise line gig. It turns out that two of Heather’s neighbors are bartenders for a couple of the local bars (Heidi at the Bad JuJu Lounge and Megan at Marcus’ Martini Heaven) and might be able to get demo CD’s to the right people. Additionally, Heather knows a guy who is a freelance writer for music and electronica magazines in the region, and she might be able to hook me up with him. Then, during the housewarming party at Don and Chad’s, I was told about a guy who’s running a pirate radio station somewhere up in North Seattle. If I get hooked up with him, then as long as I can find transportation to wherever it’s set up, I might be able to get a show on there and start getting my name out that way. And lastly, Kayo knows one of the people who handle the DJ’s for the Vogue, and might be able to get me hooked up with them. I’m still hoping that the cruise lines come through — not holding my breath, but I did send a questioning e-mail to them earlier today — but if that doesn’t happen, then hopefully at least one of these other possibilities will play out.

Anyway, I’m out of time for lunch now…time to get back to doing what I’m supposed to do around here.
