I’m not entirely sure if Robin Williams is the funniest man on the planet or not, but after being able to see him live tonight — it wouldn’t surprise me!
A while ago, Chad surprised me by letting me know that he’d picked up tickets for Candice and me to go along with him, Don, Rick, and Meagan to see Robin Williams’ standup routine when he came through town. I was pretty floored by this (tickets were $100 a pop!), but there was no way I was going to say no! So, tonight Candice and I wandered down to the Paramount (just a few blocks down from my apartment) to meet up with the gang, and found out that Marty and Aimee had shown up for the show also! We all hung around outside for a bit, then wandered our way in for the show.
Robin came on stage just about right at 8pm, and spent about the next two hours keeping everyone in the audience in absolute stitches. I wish I had a better memory for things like this, but I think even if I did, I’d have been too busy laughing to bother committing much of it to memory. Great, great, great show, though.
One very interesting piece of trivia that I’d never known before — Robin Williams is Episcopalian! He spent a while on religion, then got sidetracked (as he tends to do), but before he wandered off into something entirely different, he started comparing religions, and was really need to find out that he shares the religion that I’ve been brought up in. Was also quite amusing some of the same viewpoints on religion and the differences between the various religions that I’ve both heard and spouted over the years coming from him…but then, as the man’s brain runs far too fast, he sidetracked himself with fundamentalism, and flew off into the current mideast crisis. Still, was a lot of fun.
After the show, the eight of us hiked up Pike a few blocks to Bimbo’s Bitchin’ Burrito Kitchen, home of some of the best (and biggest) five-dollar burritos in Seattle, for dinner. After gorging ourselves on burritos and an absolutely gargantuan piece of chocolate cake, we all went our seperate ways. All in all, quite the entertaining evening, and it was good to see Aimee and Marty again, as I hadn’t seen either of them since shortly before I left Alaska.
I should probably make mention (as it’s probably been noticed in that second picture by now) that I have gotten something of a new haircut! Mom, I’m sure, will be less than absolutely thrilled (no more curly red hair…[sigh]), but I’d toyed with the idea of taking my hair really short for a while now, and finally decided to give it a shot a couple weeks ago. It was definitely a bit of a shock at first, but I like it, and have gotten some pretty good compliments on it, so apparently the look works for me. So…well, sorry Mom, but I think this is how it’s going to stay for a while! Can you still admit that I’m your firstborn son? :))
