Most literate cities

This entry was published at least two years ago (originally posted on July 17, 2003). Since that time the information may have become outdated or my beliefs may have changed (in general, assume a more open and liberal current viewpoint). A fuller disclaimer is available.

Here’s something cool: The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has posted a study of the most literate cities in America. Seattle got number two!

The top 10:

  1. Minneapolis, MN
  2. Seattle, WA
  3. Denver, CO
  4. Atlanta, GA
  5. San Francisco, CA
  6. Pittsburgh, PA
  7. Washington, DC
  8. Louisville, KY
  9. Portland, OR
  10. Cincinatti, OH

  1. Well, for being one of the ‘worst school districts in the nation’ at least the people can read the crap that is spewed about them… (Portland, OR)

And another reminder that innercity crime has nothing to do with how well the inhabitants of those cities can read… (Washington, D.C.)
