Tentative plans for the next few months:
- Get a recent copy of my credit report.
- Starting with the smaller bills and working my way up, pay off my debts.
- Once my credit is a bit more bearable than it is now (at least, far fewer outstanding debts)…
- Apply for financial aid/loans/grants.
- Apply to school (possibly Central Washington University).
- Pursue getting a degree — leaning towards some form of education/teaching degree.
Now, this is all fairly tentative at the moment, but I’ve been toying with the idea of getting back into school for some time now, and it just may be time to start finally working towards that. We’ll see where things go from here.
Outstanding!
That’s what I did May of ’02. I did a credit report and started getting rid of the old debt. I finally got my car paid off, too, which is the best feeling in the world and for the past couple of months I’ve been trying to regain my financial balance, which is finally happening :-) Being financially sound/solvent is a good thing. And then James is going to be done with his BS in IT Technology, probably next November.
Good for you, Mike!
Love
Dad
hm… i’m going to say i congratulate you on your goals, your planning for other things seems to be going great (then again, there are pretty computers involved with those…). I want to say though that I think before you committ yourself mentally or emotionally to a teaching degree to be very very VERY sure that it’s what you want to do. It’s tough to get a job in the teaching field anymore, you won’t make much money (not a biggie for you, I suspect), and there are those ‘no child left behind’ initiatives to stay out of. Still, I imagine you would be an amazing teacher, one I’m sure I would have enjoyed in high school especially. Are you leaning toward secondary education? What sort of subjects would you like to teach?
I’m definitely keeping all of those in mind, believe me! I’ve got some time before I really have to commit, though, all the basic general ed. stuff has to come first. I’ve been rattling it around in my head for a while, though, and more and more think that it’s the right way to go. Might just turn that ramble into a full-on post, too!
