Words, words, words

This entry was published at least two years ago (originally posted on October 6, 2003). Since that time the information may have become outdated or my beliefs may have changed (in general, assume a more open and liberal current viewpoint). A fuller disclaimer is available.

I’m so set for reading material for the next few weeks — it’s great!

Prairie just got me started reading an old series from Marion Zimmer Bradley, and I just finished the first book — The Inheritor — this morning. Unfortunately, I won’t have anything else in the series until this weekend.

No worries, though. Amazon just delivered Neil Gaiman’s newest work, Endless Nights, his return to the Sandman series.

And, on top of that, I picked up the latest book from Neal Stephenson, Quicksilver, the first book of a planned trilogy called The Baroque Cycle.

So if my posts are a little less frequent than they sometimes are for a bit…at least you know why. ;)

  1. if you want a quick, good read, neil gaiman’s Coraline is excellent. Denton got it in Portland when we visited there, and I read most of it out loud to him as we drove to Fairbanks from Anchorage in the car. It’s about a little girl who goes through a tiny door she finds in her house to a sort of parallel universe where her new parents are ever so much better than the ones at home – except they aren’t real, they have shiny black buttons for eyes, and they want to give her black buttons for eyes too. it’s actually pretty scary in some parts.

  2. Coraline is defintely on my “must read” list — Prairie and I first noticed it when we were browsing bookstores about the time that Harry Potter V hit the shelves, and both thought that it looked good. Gaiman’s one of my favorite modern authors anyway (along with Stephenson), and another recommendation certainly doesn’t hurt! ;)
