Two out of three ain't bad!

This entry was published at least two years ago (originally posted on November 11, 2003). Since that time the information may have become outdated or my beliefs may have changed (in general, assume a more open and liberal current viewpoint). A fuller disclaimer is available.

Singapore sounds like a rather odd place at times. Never having been there, of course, all I can judge by is the occasional news story that makes the rounds over here, when I find out that in Singapore, prostitution is legal, the age of consent is 16 — but oral sex is illegal.

Like the title says…;)

  1. yeps. that’s sums it up alright staying here. but like a mantra we have here…”do anything you want, just don’t get caught”…

  2. I spent almost two years living in singapore (around MRT stop “E3” Kallang). It’s the “red light” area of singapore and most of the prostitutes are foriegn girls who come from places like thailand looking for work but end up on the streets. Even though it was the red light district it also contains several of the most popular eating (the national pastime) establishments on the island and there are crowds well past midnight. Singapore is really a surreal place! Little children roam the streets and MRT at strange hours with no fear… You feel safe all the time. But in return the people give up rights like freedom of assembly (permits are a mild hassle) and the press (state run newspapers which censor content for sexual and inflamitory comments about the government). When flying into the country the first thing you’re greeted with is the declarations claim slip which warns you that ANY possesion of a controlled substance (even 0.5 grams) is punishable by death!!! Pretty heavyhanded! Still, if I wasn’t living in the US I’d be there; GREAT people, food, and climate!
