📚 seventeen of 2020: The Andromeda Strain, by Michael Crichton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A fun, quick read; amusingly thematically appropriate for the moment. Only this has the advantage of being fictional with a satisfactory resolution. If only COVID-19 could be dealt with in five days.
@djwudi I read that when I was a kid, and it scared me!
@macgenie Parts are a bit dated now (no surprise there), but for the most part, it’s still a fun read. Whether or not this is a particularly good time to read it is up to the individual. ;)
@djwudi I was thinking about the movie just the other day, I might even have talked to someone here about it. It was scary to watch as a (8-10?)y/o!
@odd I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever seen the movie, or just caught clips here and there. Might need to add it to my pandemic watch list!
@macgenie @djwudi i read it in maybe 9th grade, had never heard of Crichton before and it was an old book anyway. The scene where it ate through the cockpit seals has stuck with me ever since.
Hot Zone later claimed most frightening book but A.S. has legit remained in second ;)
