    • Regaining Trust Rather sad how it only takes one psychotically self-absorbed pathological liar to destroy your faith in people.
    • Northwest Folklife Festival, Seattle Work commitments kept us from doing a full weekend jaunt, but Prairie and I went out to wander around the Folklife festival on Saturday afternoon and evening. Here's the rest of my shots from the day.

    • Old friends Got to hang out with Rebecca and her husband Gary and their friends Carla and (insert name here when I figure it out) at the Vogue tonight. Was great to see Rebecca again — we got to talking about it, and we figured that the last time I saw her she wasn't even old enough to vote, let alone get into a bar! Too funny.
    • We Interrupt This Broadcast Mom and dad sent me a wonderful present for my birthday that just arrived in the mail a couple of days ago. It's a book called We Interrupt This Broadcast, a collection of news events that shocked the world.
    • Trailers that caught my eye Three trailers caught my eye today while I was waiting for The Day After Tomorrow to start: Collateral, Alexander, and The Stepford Wives.
    • The Day After Tomorrow I got back home a bit ago from seeing Roland Emmerich's latest death, doom, and destruction lovefest: The Day After Tomorrow. The verdict? Surprisingly, not nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be, as long as you keep in mind that it's your typical summer disaster movie, big on special effects, and short on plausible plot.

    • What Matrix persona are you? I am Neo, from 'The Matrix.' I display a perfect fusion of heroism and compassion.
    • Play with the penguins! And now for something completely different, and far more cheerful — take a few minutes to go play with the penguins.
    • Hoisted by their own petard I linked to this yesterday, but seeing as how permission has been granted to reprint and republish, I thought this was well worth making a full post of its own.
    • US Secret Biological Experimentation 1994 Senator John D. Rockefeller issues a report revealing that for at least 50 years the Department of Defense has used hundreds of thousands of military personnel in human experiments and for intentional exposure to dangerous substances. Materials included mustard and nerve gas, ionizing radiation, psychochemicals, hallucinogens, and drugs used during the Gulf War.
    • So, where are these weapons again? Two posts over at Daily Kos worth reading: Rockefeller rips lack of WMDs and Blair under fire. Apparently people are starting to get a little steamed about the amazing disappearing Weapons of Mass Destruction we went to war over.
    • Stop George! We need to show Americans who don't even know that they have a reason to disagree with George that they do have a reason. And we need to encourage those who have not voted in the past that in 2004, their vote will make a difference. Remember, the last George was considered unbeatable less than a year before his defeat.
    • Fact-checking Reuters re: iTunes Normally I don't have much problem with the stories I see on Reuters — but then, I'm not nearly as well-versed in many of the subjects I read from them. If the rest of their news reporting is as solid as this story was, I should just stop paying attention.
    • Just the facts, ma'am I'm not unwilling to change positions based on facts, but I am unwilling to change positions based on polls.
    • Backpedaling Go check out this timeline of quotes referencing the claimed Iraqi WMD's. It'd be funny if it weren't real.

    • The point of no return… The voting has been disabled for the above poll, as changes in the website have ended up borking up the poll and results. However, if I remember correctly, the majority of the tallied votes were for the Bridget Fonda lookalike contest.
