    • Back home after an enjoyable evening at the theatre. A bit tired; bedtime soon.
    • The sausagefest was quite good (notwithstanding the distinct lack of reindeer).
    • In pseudo-Germany (Leavenworth) for dinner and Shakespeare. Dinner, of course, is something of a sausagefest. Wait, what?

    • Bumbershoot 2004: Monday And so today wraps up another Labor Day weekend at Bumbershoot. Being able to go at all was actually a rather nice surprise. The company I work for didn't close today, so I'd long since resolved myself to only being able to hit two days this year— but one of the other people at work offered to take my shift so that I'd be able to have today off.
    • Bumbershoot 2004: Sunday Yesterday (since I didn't get around to posting this last night) was another fun day of crowds and music, made even better by the sudden appearance of actual sunshine, something we had been sorely missing on Saturday.
  • 2003
    • Well, would'ja look at that? And here we go, folks — step one of the new design. It's not completely finished yet, as all I've got active at the moment is the primary content, but the rest will follow soon enough.
    • Emily and Amy Emily and Amy in Pioneer Square, Seattle.

    • More about this cruise thing Basically, it sounds like a dream job. Get paid to take a 6-month (at least) cruise, spinning in a top-flight dance club every night.

    • 2018 Summer Vacation, Part 2 Here's my photo gallery from the second part of this year's summer vacation, when we spent a week on Lake Coeur d'Alene with friends, rented a lake house and a boat, and pretended we were living a life several tax brackets above what we actually do!

    • A better photo of the cute lil’ #goth #lego minifig we got today. He’s just so gloomy!
    • Yum…Italian Prunes picked from our backyard and turned into a dessert crisp!
    • Today our @fredmeyerstores came through, and we added four more #Lego minifigs…including the little #goth boy I wanted, plus the #Sikh, #banana, and #devil.

    • On Dickwolves Since I've commented a time or two on my problems with Penny Arcade (primarily including, but not limited to, the 'dickwolves' incident), it's only fair to recognize that Mike has posted a clarification expanding on his comments at this year's PAX.

    • CascadiaCon Thursday evening Prairie and I went out for dinner with some friends from the Vogue, and found out that Erin had been asked to showcase some of her clothing in a fashion show at CascadiaCon. Over the course of the conversation, I ended up getting asked to photograph the show, and Prairie was asked to be one of Erin's models!

    • Pshaw. Rank amateur. I think I mentioned to Bob [Geldof] I could make love for eight hours. What I didn't say was that this included four hours of begging and then dinner and a movie.
    • Company on the way! And yeah — for the next week, I'm living in a studio apartment with two or three girls. Gee, ain't life tough? ;)

    • Don’t hold back! Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
    • Yahoo! editorializing It may have been just an editorial mistake, as pointed out in the MeFi thread...even so, it's certainly an interesting editorial gaffe.
    • Ascii-pr0n! Okay, sure, so I'll freely admit that i've been curious about seeing Deep Throat for a long time. Somehow, I never thought that my first chance would be through the magic of ASCII animation! Curiously engrossing, I've got to admit.

    • Book forty-seven of 2019: Starfleet Academy, by Diane Carey ⭐️⭐️⭐️ A quick and simple bit of fluff, based on an early CD-ROM game. As such, not exactly the most complex or demanding of novels, even among Trek books, but that’s about what I expected, so no disappointment.

    • Debate wrapups From the gist of what I've read so far, it seems that while Dean wasn't at his best, he did hold his spot at the top of the pack, while Lieberman came off like a complete ass.
    • Meetings are the mind killer I must not attend meetings. Meetings are the mind killer. Meetings re the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    • Universal dropping CD prices Under the new pricing scheme, Universal would lower its wholesale price on a CD to $9.09 from $12.02. The company said it expected retail stores to lower CD prices to $12.98, from the $16.98 to $18.98 they now charge, and perhaps to as low as $10.
    • The blackboard jungle It's a rather sad commentary on the state of many inner-city summer schools, and the challenges teachers face in trying to teach those students at the bottom end of the curve. However, at the same time, it is absolutely beautifully written, and gave me quite a few laughs while reading it.

    • Four day weekend! So, I'm about out the door to start a four-day weekend jam-packed with sunshine and good music. Expect lots of pictures and babble over the next few days, if I'm not too exhausted by the time I get home each night!
    • Mac Viruses There are zero known Mac OS X viruses or worms.
    • Holly Chernobyl My friend Holly, whom I've known since we both lived up in Anchorage, is going to be performing in tonight's Pizzazz! Talent Show at Bumbershoot!

    • Cool tricks with MovableType I wanted to toss this up really quickly before I crashed out tonight -- over the course of the evening, I've tossed in a few very cool tweaks to my blog setup.

On This Day: Aug 28

Since I’ll hit 20 years of blogging this November, this year I’m posting a daily list of anything I published on this day in the past.

    • One of my favorite geek shirts; unfortunately, it’s showing its age and is getting a little harder to decipher. Need to see if I can track it down to buy another one. • Another fulfilled Kickstarter project arrived while we were gone: Ako Dice. I don’t even use dice all that much, I just really liked the design. One plastic glow in the dark set, one metal set.

    • At Eartgquake Park. We saw a moose and calf across the street from the parking lot when we pulled in!
    • Batman was quite impressed by the local flora on display at the Botanical Gardens.
    • Managed to find a spot at the top of Campbell a Airstrip Road (Brasher) where we could still get an overview of the Anchorage bowl.

    • Camping Two happier items: I got my financial aid, and Prairie and I are heading up to Mt. Ranier to go camping.
    • It’s Not Time To Go Yet Was wondering if you could do me a favor in your spare time (ha-ha)? ... What I would like to know is -- what are your views on what happens when you die? I really don't have any firm beliefs...but I really love to hear what other people think.
    • So Very Predictable If anyone else in the world were to stand in front of a few hundred thousand people and ask them to throw money at them -- and not just a little money, but nothing smaller than a ten, fifties are preferred -- they'd probably get very soundly beaten. If you happen to be named George Lucas, though, you can get away with it again and again and again...

    • Korea ready to go nuclear? At this rate, we'll be seeing mushroom clouds again before we know it. If we're lucky, they'll be confined to test sites — if we're unlucky Bush's steadfast and stubborn intransigence just may score a body count the US hasn't been party to in decades.
    • Military accounting We keep hearing more and more about how much the reconstruction and rebuilding of Iraq is going to cost (on top of the billions already spent so far for the invasion and occupation). Wouldn't it be nice if we could cut those costs a bit?
    • Interview Me III: From Jonas The third of a few interviews with me, this one with questions courtesy of Jonas.
    • 'Stay away from MS' THE US Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA) has urged the US Department of Homeland Security to avoid using Microsoft software.
    • Howard Dean, rock star And wouldn't it be great…wouldn't it be really bitchin' if you had a political leader who was running for the big office…where you could like them as much as you like your favorite musician?
    • That hurts So…I noticed that you've been an American Express cardholder since I was two.
    • Flying High Howard Dean has gone from nobody to the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination. Now he's a political rock star, and he just went on a coast-to-coast tour to prove it. The Stranger tagged along for the ride.
    • Yahoo! News RSS feeds Jeremy notes today that Yahoo! News now has RSS feeds available. A good thing for finding news — but not for linking to news.
    • Blatant propaganda The Village Voice takes a look at the upcoming 'docudrama' DC 9/11.
    • Outsourcing fund raising? You'd think that if Bush was really concerned about keeping jobs in America, and getting Americans back to work, his campaign wouldn't be outsourcing fund raising phone calls to India.
    • Blogging from Afghanistan His driver, Babrack, although probably not spelt that way, is an ex-Mujahadeen who credits Stallone's performance in Rambo 3 for teaching him the correct technique for firing a rocket launcher and looking good at the same time.

    • Portugal sounds nice… This led to an entertaining little discussion, starting with beth's assertion that '...just for the record not every woman in the world wants an orgasm every time'. Things bounced merrily along for a while, until Miguel Cardoso posted the following entertaining and fascinating rundown of Porgugese sexual customs.
    • WudiVisions One upside of having to redo everything from the ground up is that it's allowing me to play with some ideas that I'd had floating around in my head for a while, and just hadn't tried yet -- and other ideas that have just appeared during this project.
    • Progress It's a long, long way from where we want to be...
