Just thought I’d babble a moment about this…

For those who might be interested, Critters Buggin’ played a New Year’s party up here in Anchorage, Alaska. Pretty damn good show, too.

One opening local band, Sleeve, put on a pretty impressive show for a group who’ve only been around for three months. then some mid-band bits by local anti-heroine Miss Spenard ’94 (kind of a seedy area of town…you’d have to know anchorage to understand, I think) and friends, then on to the show.

The critters played three solid sets, opening each one with help from bass player Lonnie Marshall (a name I’m not sure if I should recognize). Kept the audience moving all the way through, with the back half of the floor dancing, and the front half slamming back and forth in a semi-controlled frenzy. Quite fun, really.

Two things marked this particular show. One, this was a bit of a record-release party, as this was the first Critters performance since they released their first album. Secondly, they invited onstage to help jam with them the person who’s record label released their album…I don’t know the name of the label, but the guest guitarist was none other than Stone Gossard. Made for quite a fun night, and an awesome concert. Great way to start the year off…

Have to agree here…in the midst of all the Enigma-bashing that’s popped up, I like the new disc a lot…especially track three, Return to Innocence. Don’t really mind the male vocals on other tracks that much, either…

Besides, without a major change in style and content, there isn’t much Enigma could do to create another groundbreaking album, and still remain Enigma…much of their “sound” is that floaty, dreamy style, and I really don’t mind that they chose to go with mideastern chanting instead of Gregorian on this release. A simple rehash of the first album, while it might still have sounded good, would be boring…

Was curious as to whether anyone knew of an ftp site with .gifs of the cover art to any or all of KMFDM’s albums…I love Brute’s artwork, and would love to get my hands on some. Found the cover of “Money” at ftp.uwp.edu/pub/music/pictures/k/kmfdm but that seemed to be the only one they had…

Any info would be appreciated…

Really? Bizarre…up here in Anchorage, it actually is fairly ‘easy to find,’ as both locations of Mammoth Music (the local ‘alternative’ music store) regularly have at least one copy on the shelves, and I even see it fairly regularly at Camelot…

Tell ya what…anybody wants a copy, send me a check/money order made out to either Mammoth Music or Camelot Records (saves you from worrying about my cashing your check), and I’ll send you a copy of Fixed…we can work out postage later…

First off, I’m insanely jealous whenever someone casually starts off a post about BlackHappy with “some friends of mine….” Anway…

They came up here to Anchorage for two shows, but, unfortunately, I managed to miss them both. Very upset…however, I have managed to pick up both Friendly Dog Salad and Peghead, and am very hooked…if you could pass on my appreciation (and generic fandom) to your friends (ergh!), I’d appreciate it…

Was curious if anyone else out there had discovered Blackhappy…incredibly good band. Two guitarists, two drummers, a bass, two trombones and a sax…lots of sound, powerful music. Two albums out…Friendly Dog Salad and, more recently, Peghead. Both good, FDS is more funky…I like Peghead better. If it was possible to wear out a CD, I’d be doing it…
