I’ve been an amateur shutterbug for a long time. This tag is primarily for posts about photography and the associated tech.
About to be published…
I’ve been holding off on saying anything about this just in case something fell through, but since I got the check in the mail today, I figure it’s worth letting the cat out of the bag…
…the freakin’ New Yorker just purchased one of my photos to use in an ‘advertorial’ for the MGM Grand casino for $250!
The photo will be part of a spread in the Nov. 27th issue of the magazine.
Too cool!

Aperture
Consider this firmly on my wishlist come Christmastime: not only has Apple just upgraded Aperture to version 1.5, but Frasier Spiers has announced the first beta of an Aperture version of his excellent FlickrExport plugin (I consider the iPhoto version of FlickrExport an unconditional must-have for iPhoto/Flickr integration, along with Ken Ferry’s Keyword Assistant).
Even better, the educational pricing for Aperture is just $150 — half off the standard retail of $299.
It’s not a critical need, but it’s definitely a wishlist item. So pretty…
Photofront
There’s plenty of toys floating around the ‘net that integrate with Flickr in various ways, but this morning I just found a really nice way to create a very slick gallery style presentation: Photofront. A few clicks create a simple Flash-based photo presentation that can either be hosted on the Photofront site or embedded into your own site as I’ve done. Nicely done!

Me and a Cockatiel
Spent a very nice day at the Woodland Park Zoo today. I’ve got the photos sorted out and almost ready to upload, but there’s still a few I want to tweak a bit before sending them up. That’ll come tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ve uploaded four taken today of either Prairie or me. Consider it something of a ‘teaser’. Here’s the other three…

Dance Off 2006
On something of a whim, thanks to having an evening when I wasn’t working and nothing was planned, Prairie and I decided to head down to an event I’d just stumbled across earlier in the day: Dance Off 2006.
Dance Off is an annual competition held in the Seattle area for people who want to prove that they have the heart and soul of a dancer, even though they do not have the training of a dancer.
When we made it downtown and started wandering down Post Alley we were a little concerned that we wouldn’t be able to make it in, as the line just kept going, and going, and going…
…however, we figured it was worth taking a chance and grabbed a spot at the end of the line. I wandered off to snap a few shots, and suddenly saw Prairie heading towards me to tell me that I’d just missed my chance to get a ticket! There’d been someone working their way down the line handing them out, but since I wasn’t in line…oops. Ack! Mere moments later, though, I spotted the girl who’d been passing out tickets, and she spotted me. “You! You were taking pictures!” she said, and handed me a ticket. Once again, all was good with the world.

Conversation
90’s rock group Soul Asylum gave a free show at the Pike Place market on Thursday morning, and Prairie and I headed down to see them. While we were waiting for the show to start I took a few random people shots around the gathering crowd. This shot is by far my favorite of the morning (the rest are here).
