Watched the last three episodes of season three of Enterprise this evening. The show definitely improved over the first two seasons, but went to some pretty dark places. Was not expecting the cliffhanger ending, though! One more season of the only Trek I haven’t watched. 🖖
Star Trek
This moment from Deadline’s Picard podcast made me laugh: in a discussion of how the various Trek governments mapped to real-world governments, Jonathan Frakes ends with, “And now we have a Pakled as a President.”
Star Trek: Picard S01E06: Much better than last week. Borg cube action that isn’t just squicky siblings, Soji hits a point of no return, and Picard comes face to face with parts of his past, good and bad. But who gave the Romulans a Lament Configuration? ;)
On S3 of ENT (my first time), and people complaining about how dark DIS is must be forgetting the millions dead on Earth, Archer’s obsession leading to psychological torture, organ farming, and piracy, T’Pol’s drug addiction, and who knows what else. Not a shiny happy show! 🖖
Star Trek: Picard S01E05 Stardust City Rag
Star Trek: Picard S01E05: A somewhat uneven mix of Las Vegas heist caper and serious themes. Parts I greatly enjoyed (the outfits, Patrick Stewart going overboard), other parts (the opening scene in particular)…not as much. Not bad, but not as good as prior episodes.
Star Trek: Picard S01E04 Absolute Candor
Star Trek: Picard S01E04: Lots more exploration of Romulan culture, Picard continues to face the consequences of disappearing for so long, and we finally get some gorgeous shots of an original classic Bird of Prey! Oh, and the main baddies continue to be generically creepy.
Picard Theory (Probably Wrong) 🖖
Adding to my list of probably wrong predictions about where a current Star Trek show is going (most recently, for Discovery, those would include that the Kelpiens and the Ba’ul are different stages of the same species and that Control was the genesis of the Borg)….
Spoilers for episodes two and three of Picard follow, but probably not for anything beyond that, because I’m usually wrong about these things. :)
Star Trek: Picard S01E03 The End is the Beginning
Star Trek: Picard S01E03: The pieces are all on the board, we’ve met all the primary players, and Picard finally gets to drop one of his key lines. Lots more mysteries for both the Borg and Romulans, plus some neat expansion of the Romulan culture. And the music at the end! 🖖

Star Trek: Picard S01E02 Maps and Legends
Star Trek: Picard S01E02: Much more world building and setting the stage—not a bad thing at all, in my view. Parts of the “magic technological forensics” bit were a little far-fetched, even for Trek, but hey, it’s just a future version of what Law and Order does, right? 🖖
