    • Nikon D80 Revealed Just a few months after getting my D70s, Nikon's wrapped up their 20-day teaser campaign by introducing the Nikon D80. Overall, it looks _really_ good -- the only thing I see that doesn't really excite me is that the D80 uses SD rather than Compact Flash, but it makes sense given SD's dominance of the small camera market. ➡

    • Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein A small town sits at the base of a craggy mountain. on which a narrow, craggy road winds its way up to the forbidding castle at the top, eerily illuminated by a full moon. The house lights go down, and the title card appears over the scene: Young Frankenstein! Overall: an _excellent_ show, and we got to see it _first_ (nyeah-nyeah)! ➡

    • Tyger, Tyger, Burning Bright… A few weeks ago, Prairie had a Monday off and was able to come out to the Vogue's Sunday Fetish night with me. While we were there, we heard a very nice track that caught our ear, with a slow, driving tempo, pulsing drums, and using William Blake's The Tyger as its lyrics. ➡
    • The Worst One of All Scoble's looking for websites that install nasty crap onto your computer to see how Vista responds. I was going to suggest www.microsoft.com, but he's already been bit by that bug. ;) ➡
    • Pre-release bloopers While there's a certain amusement to all of this, what really struck me was that in this internet-centric age, fans are able to catch bloopers in movies _before_ the movies are even finished -- and in this case, possibly allowing the studio to correct the error before the final film is released. Pretty amazing. ➡

    • National Preparedness Month: September 2004 Coming this September, on the three-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks: National Preparedness Month. Because the prior 35 months were all about slacking off and letting the terrorists win, apparently? ➡

    • Condolences Over the course of the past few days, Jessica Wilkinson, a regular member at the Vogue, went missing. Yesterday, her family officially filed a missing persons report with the police, and word started spreading around the various Seattle communities. Last night, the police contacted her family to let them know that she had passed away in her apartment. Nothing else is known at this point. ➡

    • Missouri 0 — Seattle 1 Handily showing up Missouri's ban on gay marriage, King County Superior Court Judge William Downing ruled this morning that banning gay marriage would violate the state constitution, clearing the way for gay marriage in Washington once the ruling is reviewed by the state Supreme Court. ➡
    • Photo Op? Or attempted murder? Pratridiot Watch takes Bush to task for using the recent security alerts as a photo op for Laura and the twins. Actually, I think that's entirely the wrong way to look at it. It wasn't a photo op — Bush was actually just hoping the terrorists would attack, killing his wife and children in the process, so he could play upon the sympathies of the nation's people to re-elect him next November. ➡
    • Music and Politics Just for amusement sake, after reading an article about the upcoming Vote for Change concert tour, here's a short and probably very incomplete list of musical artists who have supported one presidential candidate or the other.     • Can you say 'smear campaign'? I knew you could! Rev. Robinson may have had the honor of being elected the first gay bishop of the Episcopal Church today. He may not have — having made it through the first two elections is a good indicator, but not a gaurantee, that he would have made it through the third. At this point, though, we may never know. ➡

    • Live Octopus Tentacle Okay, admittedly, I'm no fan of seafood -- generally, I tend to limit my meat-eating to animals with legs that stay on land most of the time. However, even if I were more into seafood than I am, I still think that I'd be _far_ too squicked out to try eating a dish of live octopus tentacles. ➡
    • The DJ Test Rebecca just got a job as a professional DJ for AMS Entertainment, and in her post celebrating her successful certification, mentioned that she'd had to take a test to get the job. This struck my sense of humor, and has prompted the following exchange... ➡

    • Word of the Day: Psycophant Psychophant — A person suffering from a mental disorder in which contact with reality is lost or highly distorted, and which is characterized by unembarrassed fawning over the current administration and its lackeys. ➡

    • The City Sleeps So, the big news of the moment is that we appear to have an arsonist running around Seattle. Thirteen fires in the North Seattle area over the past three days, the majority of which have been definitely determined to be arson, and now there's a reward being offered of up to $30,000 for information leading to an arrest. ➡
    • Kerry and Bush: Achievements Lately, Bush's line of attack has been that Kerry just hasn't done that much during his time in the Senate — a charge that, unfortunately, is being blindly accepted and parroted until it's accepted as 'truth'. I had a conversation with a gentleman yesterday during my lunch break where he delighted in pointing out Kerry's supposed lack of real experience. ➡

    • iTunes and Jazz: More about Metadata Regular readers of this mess I call a website will occasionally have seen me rant about metadata, especially where the iTunes Music Store is concerned. In short, it's woefully incomplete, and at times, flat-out inaccurate. It was quite heartening for me to run across Jazz in 2500?, a jazz-lovers look at the disservice done to music when only the least possible information is preserved when purchasing music online. ➡
    • Ballard Locks Photo Workshop So yesterday was the big photo gathering at the Locks. Prairie and I picked up her sister Hope and then headed out, eventually getting there about an hour into the event. As I'd never been to the Locks before, I wasn't entirely sure where to go at first, so we just started following the paths and wandering around. It wasn't long before we stumbled across a fairly large group with a higher-than-average ratio of cameras… ➡
