Since I’ll hit 20 years of blogging this November, this year I’m posting a daily list of anything I published on this day in the past.

    • Elusive Salvation by Dayton Ward 📚: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: A fun standalone-but-sequel-of-sorts to Ward’s earlier _From History’s Shadow_, with time travel, Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln, and lots of fun nods to Trek timeline shenanigans.

    • Book eighteen of 2018: Cormorant Run, by Lilith Saintcrow. ⭐️⭐️
    • Increasingly convinced that Trump’s tariffs will manage to crash the economy right after the Nov. elections, so that if we do get a “blue wave”, Dems will get blamed for the crash, setting up either Trump’s re-election or some other racist, sexist piece of trash’s win in 2020.

    • This hat showed up in the mail — it’s got to be a graduation present from Dad and/or Mom. A bit ahead of the game, perhaps, but the optimism is appreciated! (153/366)
    • Chucks of the day (1/?): low tops, black with maroon stripe, black/grey/maroon striped tongue and lining, black laces. #chucks #converse
  • 2014
    • Are you sure the weekend’s over? Like, really, really sure?
  • 2009
    • Preliminary Vacation Plans We haven't been on a big vacation since the trip to Hawaii for Hope and Peter's wedding a couple years ago, and haven't even had a lot of chances for smaller weekend 'mini-breaks' lately, so we're really looking forward to this.
    • Links for May 26th through June 1st Sometime between May 26th and June 1st, I thought this stuff was interesting. You might think so too! • On the (Rebooted) Final Frontier • 15 Sexist Vintage Ads • Seattle Police Dispatched to Zombie Walk • Confessions of an Introverted Traveler • Meme Scenery
  • 2007
    • Photography Workflow I just had someone ask me through my Flickr account about my photography workflow and sales experience, and I figured I might as well put my response up here for...um...posterity? Ego-stroking? ;)
  • 2006
    • It’s just not the same… It occurs to me that I've never done this without a half-dozen other girls.
    • Random Bits… I'm healthy, the Simpsons are funny, I have dress clothes for prom, and there will be lots of Jason Webley goodness in the upcoming days.
  • 2005
    • March of the Penguins This is rather horrendously teen-girl-Livejournal-y, but for once, I'm actually tempted to let lose with an "EEEEEEEEEE! PENGUINS!"
  • 2004
    • Fun on the bus For the rest of the trip, she sat next to me, talking to herself (and occasionally to me, though very rarely did I actually catch any intelligible words), inflection bouncing up and down the scale as she asked and then answered her own questions, and occasionally bursting into a sudden fit of giggles.
    • Vacation time! Laying out rough plans for an upcoming vacation in September to see Marc and Laura get married and celebrate Erika and my dad's birthdays.
    • Suggestions: Good candidate overview sites? i know i don't want bush in office again, but i don't want to vote for just anyone, either. if you can find me a site that lays it all out in a clear, concise manner, i'll read through it all and see if i can't decide which person i feel would do the best job in office
    • If I were to move anywhere… …I often think it would be San Francisco. First they give the gay marriage movement a rousing kick-start — now a San Francisco judge has ruled Bush's recent ban on abortions unconstitutional.
  • 2003
    • Good luck, Larry Wachowski There's a very interesting and serious story that's just staring to break on the 'net, that I'm afraid is going to be presented in extremely unflattering and quite probably derrogative ways once it starts to spread.
    • Newly Digital (Back in the Day, redux) Adam Kalsey has started a project he calls Newly Digital -- a collection of stories about when people first discovered computers, got online, and so on. In that vein, I'm updating and reposting my 'Back in the Day' post from roughly a year ago, to contribute to the project. Enjoy!
    • Finding Nemo Pixar continues their as yet unbroken string of excellent movies with Finding Nemo, the story of a father's hunt for his missing child.
    • The Bourne Identity Quite fun to watch — more known for his dramatic roles, Damon does a very credible job with the action scenes, and Famke Potente (of Run Lola Run) is very enjoyable as a girl swept up in Damon's flight and search for clues.
    • Traffic Traffic got a ton of good reviews when it came out, but for one reason or another, it just didn't grab me very much.
  • 2001
    • This I’ve gotta get! Henry Rollins has finally just released a spoken-word performance to DVD! I was lucky enough (as were a bunch of my friends) to be able to see him when he came to give one of his spoken word performances at UAA a few years back, and I've already got two of the spoken word CD's he's released.
    • I’m hungry… …and since it's after my lunch time, I can't exactly bail out of here to grab something to eat. Guess I'll just have to order myself a Ninja Burger.
    • Slight page updates I just went through and made some slight adjustments to some of the pages on the site (mainly this one, my resume, and my DJ Wüdi propaganda) to reflect the fact that I'm not going to be in Anchorage for much longer.

    • Schoolboy Once Again There's been a change of plans that's taken place over the past couple weeks, and now that I've verified that talking about it publicly won't risk my status with the unemployment office: I've decided to take advantage of having a lot of unclaimed free time and head back to school!
  • 2005
    • Virtual Moving While my DSL line and aging webserver were fine for my needs a while ago, I'm outgrowing them. So, I think it's time for me to pare things down a little bit and look into external hosting options.
    • Blade: Trinity I just got finished watching Blade: Trinity. While I'm certainly not going to make any claims about it being a _good_ movie, it ended up being _far_ more entertaining than I expected it to be (and probably more than it had any real right to be).

    • Most naturally beautiful women A 'panel of experts' (beauty and fashion editors, make-up artists, model agencies and photographers) has just released a list of the top 100 most naturally beautiful women. Here's the top 10.
    • More on the Monorail fire Amusingly enough, while talking with Prairie about the stories, where her reaction was to be a little freaked out and quite glad she wasn't around, my first reaction was, 'Well, no-one got hurt. Wish I'd been there with my camera!'

    • No more standalone IE Also — does this also kill IE for the Mac? IE already hadn't been updated for the Mac in ages, and with the proliferation of alternative browsers available out there for OS X — including Apple's own Safari — has Microsoft decided it's time to concede the browser war as far as the Mac platform goes?
    • Write a blog, say hello to the FBI Note to the FBI: Feel free to browse through my politics category archives, just be sure to knock before entering my apartment. ;)
    • Bush lied. People died. Jack Straw and his US counterpart, Colin Powell, privately expressed serious doubts about the quality of intelligence on Iraq's banned weapons programme at the very time they were publicly trumpeting it to get UN support for a war on Iraq, the Guardian has learned.
  • 2002
    • Fight Club Everything had gone so easy, I wondered. I'd done everything the mechanic said to do. This was why we needed to buy a gun. This was doing my homework.

    • Trailers that caught my eye Three trailers caught my eye today while I was waiting for The Day After Tomorrow to start: Collateral, Alexander, and The Stepford Wives.
    • The Day After Tomorrow I got back home a bit ago from seeing Roland Emmerich's latest death, doom, and destruction lovefest: The Day After Tomorrow. The verdict? Surprisingly, not nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be, as long as you keep in mind that it's your typical summer disaster movie, big on special effects, and short on plausible plot.

    • Fact-checking Reuters re: iTunes Normally I don't have much problem with the stories I see on Reuters — but then, I'm not nearly as well-versed in many of the subjects I read from them. If the rest of their news reporting is as solid as this story was, I should just stop paying attention.

Hopefully I'll have another chance before November rolls around (and if I do, I hope it goes better than this one did).

    • Photographer's rights This could be very handy, though I won't be printing it out and reading it fully until tomorrow — The Photographer's Right — your rights when stopped or confronted for photography.
    • Politics in the Matrix? The way the Matrix Reloaded points out the multiple layers of control built into society is perhaps the most potent of the messages it carries. Its one thing to make people aware of the first layer of control. Its far more powerful to make them aware of the way that a built in 'resistance' can be used to solidify the power structure.
    • Santorum gay rights benefactor? U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, R-Pa., has become a 'major donor' to New York's biggest gay rights organization, thanks to a gay comedian's off-Broadway show.
    • Songs, A-Z Well, I didn't read the rules of this game after I saw Dyanna's list, so this list might seem a little odd.
    • Black Hawk Down Overall, I think a healthy dose of cynicism is a good thing, but this time I seem to have taken it a bit far.
    • Memorial Day Weekend This weekend, I explored Ape Cave, saw the south face of Mt. St. Helens, hiked along Lava Canyon, and played on a rope swing! All in all, a very good weekend. I hope yours was as enjoyable!

    • Solo was fun. My current high-water mark for “new actors inhabiting characters without just mimicking original actors” is the nuTrek films (esp. Urban as McCoy); while nuHan isn’t quite that good, he wasn’t bad. Lots of fun moments and nods to the rest of the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️½

    • A Portrait of the Author as a Young Man I recently found a stack of old ID cards from my high school days in a drawer, a discovery that led to an interesting mix of amusement and horror as I flipped through them. So what do I do, but take them to work, scan them all in, and bring them back here to expose them to the world. There's something seriously, seriously wrong with me. ;)
    • Alaskans against CAPPS II Washington DC bureaucrats think we need their permission before we can get on a plane. We think they're wrong. They don't understand that up here in Alaska, we use airplanes the way you use taxis. And that's why we, a group of Alaskans, are turning to the US District Court for help.
    • Kerry in Seattle tomorrow Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry will be in Seattle at a free public appearance on Pier 62 tomorrow morning.

    • Showgirls commentary track While I've never had a chance to catch it, for a while now local Seattle writer David Schmader has been hosing screenings of the infamous Showgirls, providing a running commentary skewering the film in what I've heard makes for an absolutely hilarious showing.
