    • New iMac On the Way… I've been planning on upgrading my desktop for a while now, and almost ordered an iMac a few months ago. I'm _so_ glad I waited for the next generation of iMacs to be released, though! They were released this morning, and mine is ordered and on its way! ➡

    • Playing the race card Prairie and I got a sudden hankering for ice cream and stopped into the Baskin Robbins just down the street from our apartment. A couple of teenagers were hanging out in the store, chatting with their friends behind the counter. Sitting at one of the tables, a skinny black kid, decked out in street-standard clothes said, 'I don't think I could live with you people.' ➡

    • Give us a sign, Lord! Many of the signs and billboards in the Orlando area were no match for Hurricane Charley. However, one billboard resisted the 100-mile per hour winds of the eye wall of the storm. ➡
    • Protesters, police clash in Jacksonville, OR President Bush stopped by the small town of Jacksonville, OR last week while campaigning. As tends to happen, this brought out both pro- and anti-Bush sentiment…and as also tends to happen these days, it was the anti-Bush side that got the worst treatment. ➡

    • Now on LiveJournal – me! I only found this out a short time ago, but it appears that the online journaling site LiveJournal has limited support for picking up RSS feeds.     • Make it rain… Well, okay, so I knew that it was raining pretty hard as I went to work today. It had been raining when I woke up, and I hadn't heard it let up at all, and it's always kind of fun to see the streams running down the hills in the downtown Seattle area. ➡

    • testy.littleville.com I've been having an odd problem that I've noticed in the past, but am just now starting to attempt to track down, in that my server keeps insisting that its domain name is 'testy.littleville.com' rather than 'www.djwudi.com'. ➡
    • Slight IMAP issues Work keeps progressing on re-creating the djwudi.com webserver. Last night's project was setting it up as a working mailserver using sendmail and IMAP. Much progress was made, and I'm just facing one last issue that I can't resolve, and if there's anyone out there who might understand a bit more of this end of things than I do, assistance would be greatly appreciated. ➡

There are flags and yellow ribbons and posters and every media outlet is beating the war drum and even sensible people can hear nothing else. In the US, God forbid you should suggest the war is unjust or that dropping cluster bombs from 30,000ft on a city is a cowardly act. In a country that lauds its freedom of speech, a word of dissent can cost you your job. ➡

Unfortunately, while the company I'm working at obviously has no problem with kilts in the workplace, the company I work for is far more strict with their dress code. ➡

I'm not entirely caught up with the post-debate threads that made it into my newsreader last night and this morning, but according to a couple posts from Kos last night, I may have been too pessimistic in my debate wrap-up — people seem to be giving Kerry a definite win. ➡

    • Who’s gonna swerve first? It's not 'conspiracy theory,' as some of my readers have accused me, to suggest that Bush may not actually want to spend the lives of Americans to invade Iraq. It is quite possible -- no matter how evil or misguided you believe Bush to be -- that he would rather not waste a few hundred or thousand American lives, or a few hundred thousand Iraqi lives, on pipelines and additional security against nuclear/chemical/germ threat. ➡
    • Microsoft switchers – oops! Unfortunately, since Microsoft (apparently) couldn't find any customers that had actually made the switch from the Mac to Windows, and were happy about it, and willing to talk about it — they had to combine a hired freelance writer's story with stock photography. ➡

    • The Rhythm of Life My strongest memory of a trip to England revolves around a single song. Our show-stopper piece that year was a song called 'The Rhythm of Life' -- fun lyrics, an upbeat tempo, and a gorgeous arrangement that made every part fun to sing had quickly made it a favorite, and we'd all become quite fond of ending our concerts with this number. ➡

    • Presidential Debate #3 Almost time for tonight's Presidential debate, the last of this election season's round. Will Bush actually look like a President? Or, more likely, will we get to see him stumble and fall yet again? As before, I'll be watching on C-SPAN, and will update this post with my usual random babbling after the debate's done with. ➡
    • Kill Switch…Click Y'know what I'd like to see in tonight's debate? I'd love it if the moderator had a 'kill switch' for the candidate's microphones, so if Bush tried to railroad a statement through, the moderator could just turn him off. ➡
    • Registered to vote? Are you sure? Employees of a private voter registration company allege that hundreds, perhaps thousands of voters who may think they are registered will be rudely surprised on election day. The company claims hundreds of registration forms were thrown in the trash. ➡
    • On smoke alarms For some reason, I was pondering smoke alarms this morning, trying to figure out why they need batteries. Why not just wire them directly into the house electrical current? No more having to put up with obnoxious beeping when the batteries get low, no more worries about a dead smoke alarm causing someone's death in a house fire because they couldn't get out in time. ➡

    • Dangerous Feet and Good Diction It wasn't until I was working on deconstructing a girl's paper who had written about people who were being murdered by their feet that I really thought about how nonsensical the phrase 'my feet are killing me' really is. ➡
    • ENG102: Summary My first paper for my ENG102 class, a short summary of the second half of the first chapter in our textbook. I ended up with a 3.8/4.0, and a comment that I have 'a wonderful, lucid prose style.' I can cope with that. ➡

    • I used to believe… When we were little, my mother had bought us a book titled, 'How You Were Born'. In this book, there was an illustration of a sperm under a magnifying glass. For years, I thought the magnifying glass was a frying pan and was totally mystified by where and how the frying pan fit into the reproductive process. ➡

    • iMac caught with PC in illicit love nest In a surprise development that has rocked the computing world today, paparazzi have made public a photograph of Apple's popular iMac computer cavorting poolside with what appears to be a Microsoft Windows-based PC. ➡
