Okay…I bit. So, what’s the deal? Doing an alternative/industrial all-ages club up here in Anchorage, but it can be hard to get new stuff…. Thing is, some of the stuff you had mentioned in an earlier post wasn’t all that new, wasn’t sure if I should reply or not.

  • all good girls – die warzau – have this on the WaxTrax “Afterburn” sampler
  • hit n run holiday – thrill kill kult – Flintstones soundtrack…
  • language of reality – die krupps (clouser rmx) – this caught my eye…would this be the Charlie Clouser working with nine inch nails now? He does do good work…
  • out comes the evil – lords of acid – good track, but “Voodoo-U”‘s been out for a while…

Anyway, am interested in more info, at least…

The IIsi has a documented problem with the connection between the speaker and the motherboard. Cleaning the contacts between the speaker and the motherboard and the problem should go away, for awhile. Connecting an external speaker fixes it forever.

Thing is, this happens to me, too…and I’m on a IIvx (well, Perf600 with an added FPU and Sys7.5). The ‘main’ voices (Bruce and Agnes, I think) work fine, but all the ‘secondary’ voices (Zarvox and the like) have the fan-stutter in them. Any other ideas?

My Mac has developed a will of its own. Lately it has taken to dialing up my Internet server at random times during the day, usually around 2 PM and sometimes around 7. I use MacTCP and a PPP connection. I have no unusual utilities (such as QuickKeys) that might be sending a connect AppleEvent to MacTCP, so I am at a loss to understand what’s going on. Any ideas? Please reply via email. thanks.

I’d suggest seeing if you have Eudora running when your computer tries to connect. Eudora can be set to check the mail at intervals, at which time it checks MacTCP to see if a connection is up. If not, then it’ll attempt to make one, which could prompt the beahvior. Just an idea…there may be other Mac i-net programs with a similar setup, could be worth checking…

Now that Photoshop 3.x has been out for a while, I was wondering if anyone out there might have an old copy of the 2.5 deluxe cd-rom they might be willing to part with. I’ve got Photoshop on floppy, but would appreciate an easier install when I need it, along with whavever other goodies might be on that…and my poor old IIvx with 8Mb RAM can’t quite handle v3, so am not upgrading. Would appreciate e-mail of any offers… wo…@alaska.net. Thanks a lot…

Does anyone have any info on Dance Or Die? I bought the Psychoburbia album, and liked it a lot. I saw that they had more on the shelf, and was wondering if it was similar. Please reply here, or to lbar…@sonymusic.com.

I’ve only ever heard one song of theirs. Was called “Dance or Die” and is on a compilation I picked up in Berlin called the “German Mystic Sound Sampler” good song…one of my faves on the comp. Didn’t know any other stuff of theirs was available over here…any info you could slide my way? Woudl appreciate…

I don’t remember even where I first heard about this but…

Somewhere around a year or more ago, there was an ftp site that had a remix of ‘last’ by Butch Vig that had been nixed from the ‘fixed’ ep. As far as I’ve been able to tell, it’s not available anywhere else, and has never been released. When I heard about this, I had a friend download it for me, and I now have it here on my computer (not a bad mix, either).

Questions being:

  1. Does anyone know anything about this mix?
  2. Is it still available anywhere? After being downloaded, broken into pieces, transferred from IBM to Mac, re-pieced together and all, the sound quality isn’t great. Would be interested in getting a better quality file…but don’t have the url I originally got it from.

Any information would be greatly appreciated…

I do suppose, while not being necessarily one of the ‘big names’ (with a gun? sorry…seemingly obligatory lyrics reference) on a.m.nin, I might as well pitch in…

Currently living by the pesudonym Woody…only my family and very old friends bother with my given name anymore, so I pretty much ignore it. 21 years old, and not currently in school. Thankfully able to avoid an @aol.com address, though due to a local provider, ended up with a mildy cool address. Yippe, lifes ambition is fulfilled. Or not.

At present, biding my time here in the frozen wasteland of Anchorage, Alaska until I can get my skinny butt out of here. Current future looks like I’ll be hitting Seattle roundabouts late March or early April, not through any great longing to hit that particular false mecca of the ’90’s, but rather taking a chance to head down with a friend. Finally have a realistic chance to get out, don’t care where I end up. Yes, Anchorage is that bad. Bitch bitch bitch. There, that’s done.

Unlike the previous three posts in this that I’ve read, not currently a musician. Bummer. Classical vocal training as a child and a passing familiarity with the violin aren’t too high in demand these days. I wonder why…. I fill my time making lots of copies at the local Kinko’s. Work a swing shift, which means I get up about 2 in the afternoon, hit work at 4, off at midnight, and crash between 4 and 6 in the morning. Perfect for a night owl. When I’m not there, I usually move into the local Village Inn (a classier Denny’s type place). Friday nights I dj for a local teen club’s ‘Alternative’ night. Currently being screwed over by the manager pay wise, but hey…I get six hours a week to play whatever I feel like really, really loud, and with no place else for the under-21 crowd to go, lots of people have fun. I can deal with being a bit of a sucker for that.

Musically, decently wide ranged. A collection of 300-some discs, ranging from Abba to Legendary Pink Dots to gregorian chant to KLF, Sisters of Mercy, Mary’s Danish…very into ’80’s stuff, Jesus Christ Superstar, and have a couple of cd’s of German ‘indie’ music that goes over great at the club. Must admit to a bit of self-absorbed pride in being one of the only people here in Anchorage who not only listens to nin, but knows what I’m babbling about, much of which I owe to a.m.nin. Even hassled the local music chain for three months until they tracked down Demo’s and Remixes…and last I looked, they still had two copies of it, the better pressing even. The people up here just don’t know what’s out there…funny.

Computer wise, am a confessed mac fanatic. Hey…I can admit to being enough of an idiot to like the pretty little pictures. Course, some of those ‘pretty’ little icons were grabbed from Geiger scans, but hey…. Refuse to be dragged into a ‘my box is better’ debate, though, as I have a healthy respect for beemers, use the ones at Kinko’s a fair amount, and wouldn’t mind grabbing one, if a recent engine seizure hadn’t put me so far in debt. Just avoid Windoze like the plague. Gerf.

So hey, that’s me…take it or leave it. Fun fun fun.

Somehow I suspect I’m making myself flamebait, but I need to know: where can I obtain a copy of the opal mix of Head Like a Hole?

I’ve seen it on two discs…the import version of the HLAH single (pink and blue cover, no halo number listed, only three tracks to it. I’ve seen it most often at Musicland (gag), usually in the singles section with a special ‘Import’ sticker on it), and the boot Demos&Remixes, where it’s called the ‘go-go’ mix, or some such.

Good luck searching…

Just thought I’d babble a moment about this…

For those who might be interested, Critters Buggin’ played a New Year’s party up here in Anchorage, Alaska. Pretty damn good show, too.

One opening local band, Sleeve, put on a pretty impressive show for a group who’ve only been around for three months. then some mid-band bits by local anti-heroine Miss Spenard ’94 (kind of a seedy area of town…you’d have to know anchorage to understand, I think) and friends, then on to the show.

The critters played three solid sets, opening each one with help from bass player Lonnie Marshall (a name I’m not sure if I should recognize). Kept the audience moving all the way through, with the back half of the floor dancing, and the front half slamming back and forth in a semi-controlled frenzy. Quite fun, really.

Two things marked this particular show. One, this was a bit of a record-release party, as this was the first Critters performance since they released their first album. Secondly, they invited onstage to help jam with them the person who’s record label released their album…I don’t know the name of the label, but the guest guitarist was none other than Stone Gossard. Made for quite a fun night, and an awesome concert. Great way to start the year off…

Another MoLG (molg? cute sound) fan up here. A friend told me that reznor had done some work with them, so I went out and picked up their first album (at the time, was all that was out), only to figure out trent was nowhere on that, but was still a really good disc. Proceeded to find the BLBT single, then Rite of Shiva, and later Concentration. Like them all…especially ‘All I really Need’ off of the RoS single. Funny…not incredibly great, musically, but funny. Have heard there are singles off of Concentration, but nobody up here carries them…mayhaps when I get down to Seattle…
