    • And as my actual picture of the day, we took a nice walk by the river after breakfast to get the day going on a good note. (240/366)
    • Forgot yesterday’s photo, so here’s my stupid Snapchat filter as penance. I’m grumpy! (239/366)
  • 2014
    • (From earlier today.) “…we have wormsign the likes of which even God has never seen.” Okay, it’s an ice worm (which my iPhone wanted to autocorrect to “a nice worm”), not Shai Hulud, but Batman couldn’t let an obvious Dune reference go to waste.
    • (From earlier today.) “Do you see all that ice?! Mr. Freeze must be behind this dastardly deed. I’m sure of it!” Glaciers seem to be only vaguely understood by Batman.
    • (From earlier today.) Batman’s cover is blown, as he’s spotted by the only other passengers on our Portage Glacier cruise.
    • (From earlier today.) “The Batboat looks a little less impressive than I remember.”
    • (From this morning.) Road trip! “To the Batmobile! Or…closest rental equivalent.”
    • About to head back down from the top of Alyeska and head off to our next adventure! #vacation
    • From earlier today (Portage doesn’t have cell service), at Portage Glacier. #vacation
    • Lunch at the top of Alyeska. Good thing Batman isn’t scared of heights!

    • Congratulations, P and H! I've still got a ways to go on the rest of the vacation pictures, but I finished the set for Peter and Hope's wedding this morning.
  • 2006
    • Battle in Seattle Set in 1999, during the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle, an eclectic group of demonstrators, including environmental activists, doctors, anarchists, attorneys, eco-terrorists and just plain folks, brings the city to a state of near-chaos, and chases the WTO straight out of town.
  • 2005
    • Happy Anniversary! What with still being neck-deep in moving I'm a day late on this, but -- yesterday was my parents' 38th anniversary.
  • 2004
    • Former Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes on George W. Bush …for the Republicans to jump on John Kerry and say that he's not a patriot, after he went to Vietnam and was shot at and fought for our freedom and came back here and protested against the war - 'he's a flip flopper.' Let me tell you, John Kerry is 100 times a better patriot than George Bush or Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld.

    • Summer vacation part one was in the mountains; today we leave for summer vacation part two, by a lake! As before, connectivity will be low priority, so y’all have fun without me for another week. Once more, don’t let anything important happen while we’re gone, okay?
  • 2017
    • Getting started. #blacklivesmatter
  • 2014
    • Gave Prairie her first taste of reindeer sausage, from one of the street vendors on 4th Ave. Batman seemed a bit intimidated, but she thought it was delicious!
    • Prairie and I on the coastal trail, on our morning walk. #vacation
    • Beautiful morning for a walk along the coastal trail. #vacation
  • 2004
    • The Seattle Times: Kerry for President The Seattle Times has officially endorsed Kerry for President.
    • Happy Anniversary! Today is the 37th anniversary of the marriage of John Hanscom and Roberta Ward — also known quite fondly by me as Mom and Dad (though not respectively…I have an odd family, but not that odd).
    • Untrusted content, nofollow, etc. Phil Ringnalda pointed to an idea that Ian Hickson just tossed out while brainstorming ways to battle the ever-increasing issue of comment spam. Personally, I'd love to be able to wrap the comments section of my individual entry pages in something like this — and actually, it reminds me a lot of a technique I used to use when I had my website running on my own webserver.
    • A good UI is a good thing Terrence has a review of his Nomad Zen Xtra mp3 player posted, and while it's essentially a positive review, one line stood out to me. After having had the unit for six months and using it on what sounds like a near-daily basis, he mentions that he has 'basically mastered the controls.'
  • 2003
    • Marriage 'by The Book' The Public Nuisance has a wonderful idea: as long as the religious right is proposing basing our national definition of marriage by Biblical standards, let's go ahead and do just that.
    • Washington Post cribbing research from blogs? RonK at the Daily Kos points out today that it appears the Washington Post's Dana Millbank is doing a lot of research by reading weblogs.

    • Rebuilding from scratch Unfortunately, when I got home, it quickly became obvious that this was no minor problem. The iMac that I've been using for my webserver, was dead -- D - E - D, ded.

    • Got a great present from Prairie today! We got to see this at last year’s #Worldcon (Sasquan), and thought it was great (in the “really cheesy B movie” sense of the word). She remembered it after seeing me talking about the #hugoawards, and ordered us a copy. Yay #Australiens! (238/366)

    • The complimentary newspaper lets Batman get a handle on the local criminal underground. Such as it is.
    • Our hotel is in very easy walking distance of the train station – which will be great for taking the train up to the state fair on Friday! #vacation
    • At my folks’ place for dinner. I do like seeing real mountains out the windows.
    • Batman likes clouds. “That one looks like a dragon! And that one’s a fishie! Er…fish. Got excited. Sorry.”
    • Tuts out Batman likes crime capers for his in-flight entertainment.

    • Dance Off 2006 On something of a whim, thanks to having an evening when I wasn't working and nothing was planned, Prairie and I decided to head down to an event I'd just stumbled across earlier in the day: Dance Off 2006, an annual competition held in the Seattle area for people who want to prove that they have the heart and soul of a dancer, even though they do not have the training of a dancer.
  • 2005
    • Boxes Everywhere! Our living room is filled with boxes. Some full, some partially emptied, some waiting to be broken down and taken out to the recycling...but it's still a _lot_ of boxes. Most of mine are still over at my old apartment, too. The end result is going to be nice, but _man_ is moving a pain in the butt.

    • Just keep calm My, what amazingly calm passengers those planes had.
    • Cheney suddenly supports gay marriage Talk about flip-flopping. Dick Cheney, who until now, despite having an openly lesbian daughter, has steadfastly stuck with the party line on gay marriage, suddenly seems to be a little more open-minded about the issue.
  • 2003
    • Another lie Despite the Bush administration's public assertions, these unmanned aerial vehicles weren't designed to dispense biological or chemical weapons.
    • Why I hate George W. Bush When I look at George W. Bush, I don't see a patriot. I see a lying, psychopathic narcissist. And it pains me, it grieves me, it WOUNDS me to realize that this puts me not only in the minority… but in the 'whacko fringe.'
    • SoBig virus source found Security teams have tracked down the original source for the recent SoBig F virus — however, the author is still unknown.
    • Dark Suckers For years, it has been believed that electric bulbs emit light, but recent information has proved otherwise. Electric bulbs don't emit light; they suck dark. Thus, we call these bulbs Dark Suckers.
    • Disney goes Goth (also: 'Bus Life' fan comments) For the fifth year in a row, Disneyland will be creeping with mobs of black-clad death-rocker types for what organizers officially bill as Bats Day in the Fun Park, but what most people just call Goth Day. (Also: Disney's 'Bus Life' fan comments!)
    • Howard Dean rally in Seattle I was already solidly in Dean's camp before this, but being able to see him in person definitely cemented my position — here's hoping that his momentum keeps growing, and we can get him not just the Democratic nomination, but the Presidency in 2004.
  • 2001
    • A few more movies I added three more DVD's to the collection over the weekend. The Black Cauldron, The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and her Lover, From Dusk 'til Dawn.
