Day 22: The trees were one of the reasons we bought this place. We’re in the city and close to the things we want to do, but can also enjoy sitting on our back deck and watching squirrels, crows, hummingbirds, and the sun through the leaves.

Kirk and Spock travel to another universe as the Enterprise crew try to counter an invasion by aliens on a religious crusade. The alien’s religion didn’t really make sense to me, their gravity-controlling weapons seemed to work mostly as required by the plot, and Cox’s referential style is as present as ever. (I feel like I harp on this, mentioning it in every review of one of his books, but it really stands out every time. He’s not a bad writer at all, he just has this stylistic quirk that likely doesn’t stick out nearly as much to some people as much as it does to me.) Not a bad adventure, but not top-tier, either.

Day 21: Watching an old episode of Chicago Med (S02E04), and just disturbed and amused my wife by diagnosing heroin withdrawal before the doctors on the show did. “I’ve read enough William S. Burroughs to recognize those symptoms!”

Day 20: How you’d usually find me on weeknight evenings (if you broke into my house, which would be creepy and unappreciated): kicked back on the couch as we watch TV after dinner, sometimes paying attention to what we’re watching, sometimes puttering with one project or another on my computer.

Day 19: A nice morning working in the backyard (which for me, primarily consists of following my wife’s instructions), refreshing the planters and flowerpots, cleaning off the outdoor furniture, and generally getting it prepped for summer.

Day 17: Getting older? Inevitable. Wiser? I hope so. More mature? Not if I can help it. I am a very serious employee.

Day 16: Gave two presentations today for Global Accessibility Awareness Day. The first was on basic document accessibility concepts and techniques; the second was on how to caption videos using the college’s tools. Both went well, and I have some good ideas and tips on how to improve them for future presentations.

Day 15: Realized after getting into bed that I hadn’t done my daily photo yet (it’s likely this may not be the last time this happens over the course of the coming year). My wife is now mocking me for posting nudie pictures online.

Day 14: It may not actually be summer yet, but we’ve got summer weather, so I can break out some of my summer shirts…and shoes to match!
It took me a little time to get these processed, as I’m working on moving away from Adobe Lightroom and learning On1 Photo Raw instead, but click on through to the full album for the photos I took during my birthday trip out to Woodland Park Zoo. It was fun to get back there!
