    • ENG101: Analysis: A Blogger is Just a Writer With a Cooler Name I got my first paper back in my ENG101 class today. The only comment given by my teacher was, "superb," and I got a 3.9/4.0, or 95/100 -- it would have been perfect, except that I forgot to include a 'memo of self-reflection.' Oops. Still, I think I can cope with the final grade.

    • New camera! The day finally came when I had enough funds available to replace the camera I lost nearly a year ago. My new toy: a Canon Powershot A95.
    • You just can’t sing in the supermarket… What a blast. This world needs more random silliness in it from time to time, and we had a lot of fun being part of this particular bit of randomness. Much giggling and many smiles from everyone in the group and from whatever customers happened to be around in each store -- just the thing for a grey winter day in Seattle.

    • iSight issues Mike recently posted about some of the pros and cons to being the owner of an iSight — pros including the simple fact that the iSight is simply a damn good camera; cons including the Mac-only nature of iChat and the somewhat less-than-satisfactory mounting options that come stock out of the box.

    • Time to get nekkid! Here I've been doing my best to keep this weblog of mine fairly solidly PG-rated, with the occasional slip into PG-13, and now I find that if only I'd shown some skin, I might have been eligible for the First Annual Nude Weblog Awards!
    • Vonnegut weighs in on Iraq I myself feel that our country, for whose Constitution I fought in a just war, might as well have been invaded by Martians and body snatchers. Sometimes I wish it had been. What has happened, though, is that it has been taken over by means of the sleaziest, low-comedy, Keystone Cops-style coup detat imaginable. And those now in charge of the federal government are upper-crust C-students who know no history or geography, plus not-so-closeted white supremacists, aka Christians, and plus, most frighteningly, psychopathic personalities, or 'PPs.'
  • 2001
    • Bleah The worst part about the whole thing, though, was on top of battling the flu and feeling like crap, plus I spent all of today battling really strong hiccups too. Not a combination I'd recommend.

Going to my window, I looked down the four stories to the street and saw fire trucks all over the place -- one heading down the street to the west of our building, another diagonally across the intersection of 8th and Seneca, a Fire Department blazer parked on the lawn of Town Hall, and I could see reflections from another set of emergency lights in the window of the building across the street.

Minor ST:TMP Director’s Cut Update 🖖

In the midst of a big list of upcoming 4K releases, The Digital Bits has this to say about Star Trek: The Motion Picture:

A lot of you are likely wondering about the classic Star Trek films on 4K, including the long-awaited (and occasionally teased) Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Director’s Edition. What I can tell you is that this is a big project but things are moving in a positive direction, if very slowly. So don’t give up; this one is going to require some patience. But do take every opportunity you have via social media to let the studio know that you really want #sttmp40 on physical 4K Ultra HD. Positive mojo can only help.

Fingers crossed! (Which is awkward to combine with the Vulcan salute, but not impossible….)

    • Consequences of an Overactive Imagination People passing me on the streets at night never know of the creatures stalking them. Wingless batlike creatures the size of large dogs, walking on their forelegs, hind legs slung up and over their shoulders and terminating in wicked-looking claws.

    • Living my dreams Tonight, as I left the dance floor and stood against the wall, I had to smile. Years ago, things like this were nothing more than a fantasy, something I'd seen and knew that I wanted to be a part of, but didn't have the opportunities to take advantage of. Now, though, it's a fantasy no longer, but a world that I'm part of.
    • You have to wonder about the gift shop… Something for a list of places to go should I ever visit Los Angeles: the brand spanking (ahem) new sex museum.
    • R.I.P. Captain Kangaroo Bob Keeshan, more popularly known as Captain Kangaroo, has died.
    • The Joys of McDonalds His mission: To eat three meals a day for 30 days at McDonald's and document the impact on his health. • Lizette& A while back, while digging through my friend Kory's mp3.com page, I stumbled across a remix he did of a song called 'Breathe,' by an artist going by Lizette&. I downloaded his mix and liked it a lot. Curious by that point, I decided to see if I could track down the original version to see what Kory had started with.
    • Reminder – DJ Wüdi mixes Just a quick reminder for those of you who may be new to my site, and might not have bounced around some of the rest of what I have up here. Over on my DJ Wüdi propaganda page, I have eleven mix sessions available for download as .mp3 files. They range from 22 minutes to an hour and seventeen minutes in length, and from 26 Mb to 88 Mb in file size, so you'll probably want to have a broadband connection (or a lot of patience) to download them.
    • MT upgrades I've just added a new plug-in to MovableType — SmartyPants. It's a relatively minor thing, but one that's nice to have — it automatically converts common characters into their typographically-correct versions. I've also hacked into the code to build TrackBack pings as they happen, speeding up individual page requests.
