    • Mom, me, and Dad, after a pleasant evening’s visit. (163/366)
    • Chucks of the day (12/?): grey slip-ons. #chucks #converse
    • Book twenty-five of 2016: Streets of Shadows, edited by Maurice Broaddus and Jerry Gordon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (163/366)
  • 2015
    • 156 pages. One half of a centimeter thick. $50. I love textbooks. (At least that’s for a new copy.)
    • Yay dilation! Can’t actually focus on anything closer than an arm’s length away. Whee!
    • I am Oculus of Borg. Refocusing is futile. You will be astigmatized.
  • 2014
    • Feeling a little glitchy. Working on putting the pieces together.
  • 2007
    • Inappropriate Thoughts I once knew someone who told me that, upon meeting the new husband of an ex-girlfriend of his, had to suppress the urge to say, 'I took your wife's virginity.'
  • 2006
    • X-Men: The Last Stand We went out to see X-Men III today. Overall not _bad_, but not _nearly_ as good as the first two were.
  • 2003
    • Who's who in the blogging world A simple guide to the A-list bloggers is a wonderful tongue-in-cheek introduction to the "big names" of weblogging.
    • More impeachment talk It seems to me that impeachment isn't unrealistic to at least consider, at this point. As has been quoted here before: Bush lied. People died.
    • Slipping through the cracks With all those reporters covering politics and government in Washington and around the country, you would think that the press would be watching the powerful on behalf of the people pretty persistently. But you would be wrong.
    • Like I think, like, I want to, like, ban the word, like, 'like,' from the English, like, language.
    • Alexandar Diego Soli And so to assert the existence of the self is therefore a sin, the worst of sins; therefore it is better to cut out one's tongue than to speak the word 'I.'
    • Still here? Been kind of quiet around here lately. No major reasons for that, really, but a few minor ones.
  • 2002
    • Gambit Look out and lock up your daughters, everyone, we're in the presence of Remy LeBeau. That's right, you're that smooth-talkin' Cajun boy with a flare for making women swoon and a great love for all things shiny and steal-able. Sure, you're forever on the run from your past, but there's no reason why you can't run from it in style, oui?
  • 2001
    • God of Ecstasy! Your open-mindedness and irrepressible energy allow your sexual energy to keep going and going and going. And when the day is through, you've left a trail of satisfied mortals in your wake.

    • Meet the guys who tape Trump’s papers back together: “Solomon Lartey spent the first five months of the Trump administration working in the Old Executive Office Building, standing over a desk with scraps of paper spread out in front of him.”

    • Across the stage and hooded! (162/366) #cwu #cwuwildcats #cwupride #ms #itam #graduation
    • Chucks of the day (11/?): Grey with red laces, Superman logo on rear, tongue, and inside lining. These seemed appropriate for the day I receive my masters degree hood at tonights’s Graduate School graduation ceremony. #chucks #converse #superman
  • 2014
    • Crazy windy today (25-35 MPH, with gusts up to 45 MPH). Used a long exposure app to try to capture the trees blowing around. Interesting final effect!
    • We are the visually impaired Borg. Your visual and optical distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is…fuzzy; focusing is futile. We need to work on our script.
  • 2008
    • Graduating on Friday While this has been mentioned briefly here and there, I figured I might as well take a moment to make it explicit. I'm graduating! :)
  • 2006
    • My Father’s Eyes The more I see of my dad's photography, the more it becomes clear to me where my eye for photography came from. Few exact matches, but _lots_ of similarities in the compositions and subjects that we like.
    • Missing: One Pink Monkey At some point over the past few days, it appears that someone ducked into our car after we'd forgotten to lock the doors. Thankfully, they didn't take much -- what they _did_ take was this cute little monkey.
  • 2005
    • Prices keep going up The clerk scanned the soda, then the water...and then we both started laughing when the register displayed a total of $520,007.00. That's some _expensive_ groceries.
    • A blast from the past… It's kind of fun to be able to pinpoint the very day that I realized there was this 'weblogging' thing going on...and to know that I'd been doing it for a good while before that.
  • 2004
    • Art is terrorism Steve Kurtz's wife, Hope Kurtz, died in her sleep of cardiac arrest in the early morning hours of May 11. Police arrived, became suspicious of Kurtz's art supplies and called the FBI.
    • Ducks in the city What happens when a family of ducks takes a walk through the city? In this case, an unfortunate (but amusing) tragedy.
    • Saved! The Seattle PI has an interesting (if short) Q-and-A session with director Brian Dannely, the man behind one movie that's been high on my radar for a few weeks now — Saved!
    • Ink or champagne? Following up (in a way) on my printer ink woes, MetaFilter today points out that by volume, printer ink is six times more expensive than Dom Perignon champagne.
  • 2003
    • Foolishness Who is more foolish — the child afraid of the dark, or the man afraid of the light?
  • 2002
    • Boxing Boxing is an interesting sport. You start with someone who's dumb enough to get the snot beat out of him on a regular basis, and then punch him 5,000 times in the head.

As you go through the test, you mark off each thing you've done. At the end of the test, you count up your answers, and figure out your percentage — the more you've done, the lower your final score, and the less 'pure' you are.

    • Snorkel Practice So now we've got flippers. Apparently, this makes Prairie a mermaid...and me a frog. I don't know, I just report what I'm told.... ;)

    • In Search of a Sugar Daddy Y'know, all I need right now is for some kind wealthy benefactor to drop about six grand in my bank account. Of course, that's not exactly likely. Possible sure...but improbable enough that as I don't have easy access to the Heart of Gold, I don't expect it'll happen.
    • The IRS is more thorough than I thought… Amusing bits from IRS Publication 525, Taxable and Nontaxable Income, Other Income: Bribes, Found Property, Illegal Income, Kickbacks, and Stolen Property.
    • DJ Humor Two DJs were talking. One of them says 'Hey, you should see this movie I saw the other day! It's GREAT!' The other one replies, 'Oh, I don't know...Who's the projectionist?'

    • One down… On a not entirely unrelated note, though, I had one thought when I saw Tenet's picture in this Time article: George Tenet and Bill Murray…separated at birth?
    • Folklife reports I only made it out to one day of this year's Folklife festival, but Chas made it through all four days. He's got a good writeup of his time there, contrasting it to a similar event in DC and pointing out quite a few links to local bands worth investigating.
    • Withdrawal symptoms Here’s what I think the truth is: We are all addicts of fossil fuels in a state of denial, about to face cold turkey. And like so many addicts about to face cold turkey, our leaders are now committing violent crimes to get what little is left of what we’re hooked on.

    • Don't talk and drive I've never felt that talking and driving at the same time was a good idea, even to the point of ticking off some of my friends by refusing to talk with them if they were driving. If it were up to me, there'd just be a non-conditional ban on using cell phones while driving, period.

    • Caption Contest What's the best caption you can come up with for this sign?

    • I used to have fingerprints Saturday was a fun day. At least, it was if you consider that I'm using 'fun' in the most bitterly sarcastic way humanly possible.
    • Americans are never this nice An African Masai tribesman who was visiting New York at the time of the 9/11 attacks went back to his tribe and explained to them what had happened and how it had affected life here in America. The tribe took donations and are donating 14 head of cattle to the United States of America!
    • Kidney Thieves/16 Volt/KMFDM/Pig Well, it took a few days for me to get off my lazy butt and actually put anything up on my page — but the concert I went to on Friday night kicked much ass!
  • 2001
    • DVDs: Closets, aliens, and dinos I was only planning on one purchase for the week, but ended up with three, as I got a $25 gift certificate from Suncoast the other day. The Celluloid Closet, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Allosaurus.
    • Unemployed weekends Well, it's official. As of 5pm today, I am officially unemployed. Now I've got no solid pans for the next two weeks other than getting everything I own sorted, packed, and ready to ship to Seattle. Kinda cool -- kinda scary. I haven't been without a job in about ten years...this is a new thing for me.

    • Kumquat Mania I generally skip most of Fark's photoshop threads, as they're generally only of fair-to-middling quality, and the level of humor is often lower than I generally get a kick out of. This one I had to check out though...and I'm glad I did.

    • More on Salam Pax Slate's Peter Maass offers some more details on Iraqi blogger Salam Pax, after realizing that he knew Salam personally.
    • Looney Tunes John Gruber of Daring Fireball says many of the same things I did, only far more professionally.
    • The Animatrix End result — thanks to Amazon, I've got my copy of The Animatrix one day before its official street date. As long as I was awake, and didn't have to actually wander out to my bus stop until around noon, I popped in the disc.
