    • Fashion had reached such heights over the years, with everyone doing their very best to upstage everyone else at every event, that perhaps it shouldn’t have been a surprise when the prize for best fancy dress went to a janitor in plain unadorned overalls. Microblogvember: fancy

    • Red vs. Blue The problem with the typical “red vs. blue” map of how states voted is that while it accurately represents the final casting of each state's electoral votes, it doesn't accurately represent how each state actually voted on the individual level. Here's a map created by Jeff Culver that colors each state according to the proportion of votes each candidate got.
    • Editorial commentary I don't know how long this will last — probably not very long, but as of right now if you go to this page, right click on the image of George and Laura Bush and save it to your desktop, you'll get an amusing suprise…
    • Guest post from Prairie To surrender, to blindly support someone just because he is the president, is the equivalent of saying we don't care about the future.
    • Looking forward The same division in the country remains, the same stalemate. The other side just got the the ball a yard or two into our side of the field rather than the reverse. And we have to deal with the serious consequences of that. Tomorrow's the day to start.
    • I pledge… Apparently, Jeff Jarvis is proposing a 'Post Election Peace Pledge'. I don't doubt that Jarvis means well with his pledge. But this is one pledge I won't be signing on to.

    • LISTBlog My friend D has just gone live with her newest project: LISTBlog.
    • Alien I just got back from seeing the Director's Cut of Alien — one of my all-time favorite Sci-Fi/Horror films — at the Seattle Cinerama.
    • This just hasn't been my best week In my experiences with Microsoft, I made a mistake, and was immediately given the most extreme punishment possible. I then turned around and essentially did the same to you. For that, I most certainly owe you an apology as well.

    • Nobody knew if people left the town on their own, or were taken against their will. All anyone knew for sure was that one day, they were there, and the next, they were gone — and there was one more mark carefully inscribed on the wall surrounding the town. Microblogvember: mark

    • Monorail is a go (again) On the bright side, though, Seattle voters have (for the fourth time) given the local monorail a go-ahead.
    • 254 – 252 Right now, things stand at 254 to 252 Electoral Votes, with Bush in the lead. New Mexico, Iowa, and (most critically) Ohio are still too close to call. Much as I'd like to believe that we could pull a rabbit out of our hat and pick up Ohio's twenty Electoral Votes, it really isn't looking terribly likely.
    • Election overload Gotta get away from the computer for a bit — refreshing CNN.com faster doesn't make the results come in any faster. ;)
    • First exit polls Some of the very first early exit polls have been released. As such, take these with a large grain of salt — we've got a long way to go today.
    • Humidermy: So very, very disturbing Taking a break from election news, Julie pointed out one of the most seriously disturbing articles I've read in a long time. At the moment, I'm pretty sure that this is a Halloween hoax. Admittedly, a rather sucessfully creepy hoax…

    • Old mashup from DJ Wüdi: Just Can’t Get Flexible in 1999 (Depeche Mode “Flexible” and “Just Can’t Get Enough” vs. Prince “1999”). The only inspiration I can remember for these is that I like the source songs and I had the acapella for “1999”. I do like the way it came out. 🎵
    • Old mashup from DJ Wüdi: Give It A Crablouse (Red Hot Chili Peppers “Give It Away Now” vs. Lords of Acid “Crablouse”). I realized a few years ago that the verses for “Crablouse” had the same rhythm as those for “Give It Away Now”, so…this was the result. 🎵
    • New mashup from DJ Wüdi: Closer to Virginity (nine inch nails “Closer” vs. Madonna “Like a Virgin”). Originally did this “live” when DJing back in the late ’90s by quick-fading between the tracks; this version is my first attempt at using Logic Pro X. 🎵

    • Ash to ash, dust to dust The stories posted of people coming out to find ash covering everything do sound very familiar, though — only for me, it was due to volcanoes.
    • Bush's plans to expand the Patriot Act President Bush doesn't think the current Patriot Act is good enough. In an attempt to 'close loopholes' in the original legislation, he's proposed three very frightning changes.
    • Panther goodies Lots of interesting tips and tricks for Panther are showing up on the web now that it's been out a few days. Some of the niftier ones I've run across so far:
    • Bush in Oz While it's certainly no surprise, apparently Bush's visit was heavily stage managed to make sure he got the most possible accolades, and the fewest possible questions…
    • Kill Bill, Vol. 1 I'm going to keep my comments here fairly brief, as this is only the first part of a two-part story. So, briefly, first impressions of the first half of Kill Bill…
    • Ooooh…spooky! Seeing as how we've found our way into Halloween week, I thought I'd find some appropriate colors for the week. Enjoy!

    • This is really clever, and I’m totally on board: What if every film Keanu Reeves has starred in is actually just Neo in another iteration of the Matrix?
    • The Muslimness of Dune: A Close Reading of “Appendix II: The Religion of Dune”: “Dune does not cheaply plagiarize from Muslim histories, ideas, and practices, but actively engages with them.”
    • Dune’s Not a White Savior Narrative. But It’s Complicated. | by Haris Durrani: “Do you think Dune is a white savior narrative? Well, you’re wrong. To accept that interpretation is to re-inscribe an account of the novel promulgated by adolescent white boys since the first of Frank Herbert’s Dune books came out in the 1960s.”

    • Job frustrations 6/17/05: My lord...Microsoft canned me for a photo, but this post slipped right by Xerox? I got _really_ lucky. In retrospect, a really stupid thing to post publicly.
    • O Brother, Where Art Thou? Incidentally, now I'm going to have to find Down from the Mountain', which apparently is available both on CD and DVD. Hmmm...Christmas is coming up pretty soon...
    • Enterprise: Terra Nova If I can't make first contact with a group of humans...I don't deserve to be on this ship.
