    • Sundog and contrail in the sky while on a walk this afternoon.
    • I pointed this out to Prairie and said, “Those birds look like testicles. And you’ll never be able to un-see that now.” She started laughing so hard she almost spit banana fro-yo at my head.
    • Smooches at the Yakima Arboretum, after a picnic and before a nice walk along the river.
  • 2007
    • Wireless I've finally joined the 2000's -- I'm kicked back in bed, typing away on a laptop that's on a wireless connection.
  • 2006
    • Stranger vs. Weekly in the Online World The Seattle Weekly one-ups the Stranger with three new weblogs and RSS feeds for their entire website. Kudos to the Weekly...and hey! Stranger! Step it up, will ya?
    • Grades To Date My unofficial transcript to date, covering winter and spring '06 quarters.
    • Bachelor Week So Far… A brief rundown of the past few days, and tentative upcoming plans for the next few days.
    • MOG: Last.fm with poorer English Under a link called 'Share my MOG', you can notify all your friends of your new MOGspace. You can either write your own little note, or you can use the provided boilerplate text. All pretty standard -- except that MOG's boilerplate message made me cringe. Out loud.

    • Rules and Regs, Section 8: Noise All Residents and their guests shall have due regard for the peace, comfort and quiet enjoyment of other Residents at all times. Musical instruments, radios, television sets, laundry facilities, etc. must be kept quiet from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. All noise shall be confined within the walls of Resident's own apartment.

    • Fame Last night when I went down to check my snail mail, another of the residents in my apartment building was checking his. I was heading back to the elevator when he spoke up. 'Hey -- aren't you Eclecticism?'
  • 2004
    • Seattle Storm Lauren Jackson in the buff See what I get for not paying attention to sports? I almost entirely missed hearing about the latest overblown controversy involving an adult choosing to pose naked for a magazine being sold to adults (though not an 'adult magazine', i.e., porn).
    • Buffy and Angel? Firstly: is Angel as good of a series as I'm finding Buffy to be? Should I start working my way through this series also? And if so, how should I watch both shows — finish Buffy and move on to Angel, or watch both at the same time?
    • I think I saw a porno like that once LOTR FANS: What are you, new?
    • SpaceShipOne makes history SpaceShipOne left the Earth behind on Monday morning and made its indelible entry in the history books as the first private spacecraft to carry humans into space. It touched down safely at Mojave Airport at 11:15 ET.
    • More on Moon’s coronation Kirsten pointed me to a Salon article following up on the bizarre coronation of Rev. Moon. I'm so flabbergasted by this event.
  • 2002
    • Off to Anchorage Well, Laura's here, and we'll be heading off to take me to the airport in the near future here. Then it's off to Anchorage, to visit friends and see James and Stacy get married -- woohoo!

    • Toby isn’t entirely sure cowboy boots are the right style for a #tinydinosaur.
    • We appear to have stumbled upon the center of geek culture in the TriCities…or at least Richland. Having fun browsing!
    • We asked Siri to take us to downtown Richland. According to Siri (“the destination is on your left”), this is it! We pulled into a parking lot to giggle before continuing to explore.
    • Chucks of the day (19/?): classic black and white high tops, only the outer material is a stiff, almost rubbery matte black material. Almost unnoticeable until you handle them. #chucks #converse
    • Some #tinydinosaur adventures at the hotel pool and hot tub, which had some very impressive (if you’re a small plastic dinosaur) landscaping features.

    • Bunny! Took a break for an afternoon stroll, and spotted this little fuzzball relaxing in the shade under a tree on campus.
    • Twelve years ago today, Prairie and I met in person for the first time (we’d been talking online for a while beforehand). One year ago today, we went down to the local courthouse and got married. Happy anniversary to us! How’s that for #throwbackthursday? ;)

    • The Learning Process As I work my way through my Solstice Parade shots, I find I'm _seriously_ second guessing a lot of what I did. It's not that the shots are _bad_, really...just that they're not as good as I had hoped.
  • 2005

    • Sister Machine Gun at the Fenix Underground Have I ever mentioned how much I love living in Seattle? One of the major reasons (aside from naked people on bikes, of course), is the simple fact that many of the bands that I've been listening to (and playing during my DJ career) for years actually come through town every so often, so I can actually see them.
    • Fremont Solstice Parade 2004 I got back a while ago from spending the day at the Fremont Solstice Parade and Festival. I had a wonderful time -- the weather was incredible, and the parade was a blast. I'm hot, tired, and a bit sunburnt, but it was very worth it.

    • Gephardt accuses MoveOn of rigging their vote People in Washington wonder why so many have been turning away from the political process. This type of baseless accusation only gives them one more reason to tune out.
    • 11 Objects Today's BlogFodder asks for 11 objects in your immediate vicinity. The sad thing is, I could quite honestly take the easy route out and give 'Eleven empty Dr. Pepper cans' as my answer. Good thing that more housecleaning is on the schedule for tonight.
    • Vote for Dean On my first day in office, I will tear up the Bush Doctrine of preemptive war. I will end this President's policy of domestic division. I will repeal those parts of the Patriot Act that betray the Bill of Rights. And I will roll back this President's tax cuts, because we will never achieve social justice in this country unless we balance the budget.
    • A visit from the Muffin Posting may be a bit light during the week — for some silly reason, I have this bizarre tendency to give the computers short shrift when I've got actual real, living, breathing people visiting my little world. I know, things like that probably mean I'm in danger of getting my geek card revoked, but you've got to have your priorities, right?
    • Weapons of Mass Destruction The phrase 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' was, as far as the OED knows, first used in 1937 by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

    • Of Course It’s Creepy! The following was originally a reply to some of the questions raised in the comments discussing an upcoming Tim Burton/Johnny Depp version of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My response became long enough that I decided to give it a post of its own rather than 'bl-hog' my own blog.

    • Bachelor Week I'm a bachelor for the next week! I just dropped Prairie off at the airport, sending her down to Palm Springs, CA to visit her dad. They'll be spending a few days there closing up her grandparents' winter home, then driving back up the coast, and she should be back next Saturday at some point.
  • 2005
    • In retrospect, this was really stupid. Looking back, this post from Oct. 25, 2001 -- almost exactly two years before the brouhaha at Microsoft -- stands out as quite likely the stupidest post I've ever made, and one that could potentially have gotten me fired for _far_ better reasons than that silly photo.
    • Free Wi-Fi for my apartment? Today on my way home for lunch I saw a work crew installing one of the Wi-Fi antennas on a lamppost on the 8th Avenue bridge over Freeway Park. Now I'm starting to wonder if my building just might end up with free Wi-Fi access provided by the City of Seattle.

While I don't host anywhere near the number of sites that weblogs.com did (whatever that number might be), I do host a few friends sites for free, and I can't imagine simply pulling the plug on their sites. Not only is it an amazingly callous thing to do, but the guilt alone would have me up at night — and that's just for three other people!
    • Racism is alive and well Owners of a New Jersey swim club are paying one million dollars to settle a lawsuit against them for denying access to 'black' and 'brown skinned' people.
    • Not terribly subtle [Ronald Reagan] was also a deeply, unabashedly religious man. But he accepted that as a responsibility, not a mandate. And there is a profound difference.

    • One year in Seattle! It's been a good year. The usual ups and downs of day to day life, sometimes with a bit more stress due to the new environs and the general issues of transplanting one's life, but overall, pretty good.

    • Year 50 Day 43 Yes, this is a 'didn't take a photo earlier, so I'm playing with filters' day. It happens!

  • 2019
    • Oh crap, can you see… We're at a point where if someone's displaying an American flag, we assume they're probably not someone we want to associate with -- that it's a display of nationalism, not patriotism.
  • 2016
    • Got my eyes dilated today. Can’t really focus yet…just kinda hoping autocorrect isn’t being a snit right now. :) (166/366)
    • Chucks of the day (14/?): High tops with black tongue, red laces, and stylized U.S. flag design — appropriate for Flag Day! #chucks #converse #flagday
  • 2014
    • Cuddled up and watching the opening match of the World Cup (Brazil v. Croatia).
  • 2007
    • Summertime! A number of updates this evening...summertime, no more school, new computers, and new weblogs.
  • 2006
    • 2nd Quarter done! The last quiz in my music class was last week; the last test in my math class was this morning. As of now, I'm done with my second quarter of college, and it's officially summertime! :)
  • 2005
    • I can dream… Today, one of Seattle's newspapers (I don't remember which) had a huge headline across the top of the page: JACKSON FREE
    • LiveJournal Oddness Also, a quick note out to the other 22 LiveJournal users out there who are subscribed to the woody_eclectic feed -- I didn't set it up, so I usually don't know when it goes wonky, and I don't get any comments you might leave on the posts in the feed.
    • iPhoto Quandries A few questions about iPhoto -- things that don't make sense to me. Why can't I export items that are on a burned DVD? When I drag photos from an archive on DVD into my local photo library, why can't iPhoto keep track of the correct tags? Why does iPhoto have to update an archive's database every time it's loaded?
    • Less nudity, more polka On our wandering we went through the Pike Place Market, and as we were in the lower levels, something in the bins of a used music store caught my eye. I stopped, backed up, pulled the record out of the bin...and started to laugh.
  • 2004
    • Skim! Skim like mad! Nine hundred and thirteen posts to work through before I'm caught up (and, since there's no way I'll make it through all that by the time I crash out tonight, there will just be more added to the pile tomorrow morning).
    • Stories too good to be true I just watched an absolutely fascinating film — Shattered Glass. It's the story of Stephen Glass, the New Republic reporter who in 1998 was outed as having fabricated everything from minor details to entire stories during his tenure at the New Republic.
    • Blogger Anon-O-Con Thanks to all who I met at the Seattle Blogger Anon-O-Con on Saturday!
    • Saved! As Roger Ebert points out in his review, the film is '…arguing not against fundamentalism but against intolerance; it argues that Jesus would have embraced the cast-outs and the misfits, and might have leaned toward situational ethics instead of rigid morality.'
  • 2002
    • tetris is so unrealistic A jet going 100 m.p.h. slammed into a deer, which ruptured a wing fuel tank and dumped 70 gallons of gas on the runway.
    • Short attention span voyeurism It's really hard not to go up to an intern in the middle of surgery and say, 'Don't freak out, but you're doing that all wrong.' I try not to do it if the patient's only under local.
    • Not in Our Name There is a deadly trajectory to the events of the past months that must be seen for what it is and resisted. Too many times in history people have waited until it was too late to resist.

    • I was just trying to get a shot at the end of the day, but I actually like the result more than I thought I might. (165/366)
    • Chucks of the day (13/?): Purple low-tops. #chucks #converse
  • 2014
    • Well, I came up with a picture, but now I don’t know what to say. Some days are like that.
    • For #funfeetfriday (worn under jeans, so nobody knows but me…and you!). ;)
  • 2009
    • I’m in an Australian Hip-Hop Music Video! If you were to watch the video for 'Chase That Feeling' by the Hilltop Hoods, just past the one minute mark, the camera pans down over the top of a desk, and sitting on that desk is a very familiar family portrait...
  • 2007
    • THE Final Exam **PUBLIC SPEAKING:** 2,500 riot-crazed aborigines are storming the classroom. Calm them. You may use any ancient language except Latin or Greek.
    • Frahnk-en-steeeen! In the vein of The Producers, Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein is being turned into a stage musical. As is becoming something of a trend , the show is premiering here in Seattle before opening on Broadway. And Prairie and I have tickets for opening night.
  • 2006
    • Best. Costumes. EVAR. Seriously -- I think these may be my favorite convention costumes ever. Spotted by artvixn at Baycon 2006.
  • 2005
    • Text-only individual archives in Movable Type When I was first investigating Markdown, one of the things that caught my eye was the ability to see the 'source' for any of the pages by simply replacing the `.html` extension with `.text`. I'd been wondering if it would be possible to pull such a trick for my site for a while, and got it figured out tonight.
  • 2003
    • Viagra gum? Wm. Wrigley Jr., maker of Juicy Fruit, Big Red and Doublemint gums, is expanding its definition of 'doubling your pleasure.' The Chicago gum company has been granted a U.S. government patent to develop a gum that contains a dose of the generic chemical in Viagra.
    • Heroes Except in the life of a hero, the whole world is meaningless.
    • The greatest American is… So, out of a completely open playing field, what ten people were nominated as the ten greatest Americans ever?
  • 2002
    • ‘I drank what???’ Incidentally, each of these movies has the distinction of having one of my first 'movie star crushes' -- Mia Sara in Legend, and Michelle Meyrink as Jordan in Real Genius.
    • It is so hot out! Where a week ago Seattle was setting record low temperatures, this week things have done a complete 180, and from what I hear we're pushing record highs for this time of year.
    • This is where it starts Constituion? Rights? What are you talking about? Those don't exist in the USA anymore.
    • Mentally 19? According to the What's your mental age? test, I'm mentally 19. It's a bit of a shame that it doesn't give any sort of justification or reasoning for that, but hey -- good to know, I suppose.
    • Naked over your clothes I'd almost love to see a group of 10 to 20 people walking down the street wearing this stuff, just to see how much confusion and consternation it would cause!

    • Thanks everyone for your notes (comments, likes, hearts, etc.) on my hooding ceremony picture and yesterday’s with Mom and Dad. It’s been a very nice weekend. For tonight, I’m being amused at our little exercise trampoline acting as a silly halo. (164/366)
